Decision to Increase Public Transportation in Ankara!

The General Directorate of EGO said, “Despite all our resistance, it has become inevitable to increase prices due to the ever-increasing costs at the point reached,” and warned that public transportation would be hiked.

In the statement made by the EGO General Directorate of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, it was announced that there was a hike in public transportation.

Accordingly, the full ticket fee is 4.5 TL, the monthly subscription fee is increased to 75 TL by increasing the maximum number of boarding passes, the discounted student ticket fee is 2.5 TL, and the transfer fees are half of these amounts. It has been announced that the new tariff will be put on the UKOME agenda to be implemented in January 2022 and will be decided.

“LOSS REACHED 683 MILLION TL ANNUALLY”

The statement of the EGO General Directorate is as follows: “The number of passengers using public transportation in Ankara decreased by 2020 percent in 50 with the effect of the pandemic period, and the loss of the EGO General Directorate, which made a loss before, reached 683 million TL per year.

Since the date of the last increase in ticket prices (September 2019), diesel prices increased by 83 percent, CNG by 220 percent, electricity by 69 percent, maintenance-repair and insurance expenses by 75 percent, while personnel costs increased by 123 percent. The average of PPI and CPI increases in this period was 102 percent.

“THE PRICE INCREASE HAS BEEN INEVITABLE DUE TO CONTINUOUS INCREASING COSTS”

Despite all this negative picture, our President, Mr. Mansur Yavaş, has long expressed will not to make a raise, and our Municipality has provided financial support for the Private Public Buses to resist this difficult process.

As a result of these studies, public transportation fees have been kept constant for more than 2 years in Ankara. Despite all our resistance, it has become inevitable to increase prices due to the ever-increasing costs.

We would like to emphasize that; More than half of the cost increases are not reflected to our people, but are covered by our metropolitan municipality. These ticket prices are the lowest in the last 25 years when compared to inflation. Considering the current economic conditions and the increase in expense costs, the public transportation fee should have been over 6,5 TL.

NEW FEE TARIFF ANNOUNCED

For all these reasons, an average price increase is considered, taking into account the annual 36% valuation rate determined by the government (Ministry of Treasury and Finance). According to the new tariff, the full ticket fee will be 4.5 TL, the monthly student monthly subscription fee will be increased to 75 TL, the discounted student ticket fee will be determined as 2.5 TL, and the transfer fees will be half of these amounts, and it is planned to be put on the UKOME agenda to be implemented in January 2022.

In addition, a new price regulation will be made on the basis of kilometers, according to the distance to the center, for the buses that provide transportation to the surrounding districts.
