The model, which started with the Opel Kadett Caravan 60 years ago and combines the genes of the first German station wagon model with today's technologies, incorporates new generation Opel design elements such as Opel Visor brand face and Pure Panel digital cockpit. The new model offers Intelli-Lux LED® Pixel Headlight technology in the compact station wagon segment, while providing optimum comfort and support with the best-in-class ergonomic AGR seats. After the new generation Astra Hatchback, which was introduced to the world in September, Opel also unveiled the highly anticipated new station wagon version Astra Sports Tourer. The new version will be the first station wagon model of the German automaker with an electric power unit, with a plug-in hybrid version with two different power levels. The new model combines the traces of the successful compact station wagon history, which started 60 years ago with its ancestor, the Opel Kadett Caravan, with today's modern technologies and lines.

A model that will open new horizons

Underlining that the brand will make a difference with this new model, Opel CEO Uwe Hochgeschurt said, “The new Astra Sports Tourer stands out as a versatile vehicle of a new era with its electric, digital and exciting design. We carry our longstanding tradition of compact station wagons into the future with innovations such as rechargeable hybrid technology. With its impressive appearance, we are confident that the Sports Tourer will bring new customers to Opel.”

Efficient, powerful, brand new engine options

The new Astra Sports Tourer, in addition to electric powertrain options; It will also be offered with petrol and diesel engine options with high efficiency levels. The power range of the engine options will range from 110 HP (81 kW) to 130 HP (96 kW) in gasoline and diesel, while it will reach up to 225 HP (165 kW) in electric rechargeable hybrid versions. A six-speed gearbox is standard on petrol and diesel engines, while an eight-speed automatic transmission (electric on rechargeable hybrid versions) is optionally available on more powerful engines.

Makes a difference with its dimensions and loading area

With its dimensions of 4.642 x 1.86 x 1.48 millimeters (L x W x H) and a loading sill height of approximately 600 mm, the new Astra Sports Tourer further strengthens Opel's leadership in the station wagon market, while at the same time demonstrating the brand's efficient use of space. Although its overall length is 60mm shorter than the previous generation thanks to the shorter front section, the new model is 57mm longer than the new Astra Hatchback and offers a considerably longer wheelbase of 2.732mm (+70mm).

Flexible luggage handling with “Intelli-Space” movable floor

The new Astra Sports Tourer provides a trunk volume of over 608 liters with the rear seat backrests in an upright position. When the rear seat backrests are folded, the trunk volume reaches over 1.634 liters. In addition, when the standard three-piece backrests are folded down, a completely flat loading floor is achieved. Rechargeable hybrid versions offer a luggage volume of over 548 liters and 1.574 liters. In the internal combustion engine options, the luggage volume can be optimized with the optional "Intelli-Space". This movable loading floor can be adjusted with one hand in different positions, high and low, and can be fixed at a 45 degree angle. In addition, unlike its competitors, which only allow the luggage cover to be hidden when the luggage floor is in the upper position, the new Astra Sport Tourer provides greater ease of use by offering the possibility to store the foldable luggage cover when the movable floor is both in the upper and lower positions. The new Astra Sports Tourer can also make life easier when a tire bursts, with its “Intelli-Space”. Tire repair and first aid kits are stored in smart underfloor compartments that can be accessed from the trunk or rear seat seating. This means kits can be accessed without having to completely empty the trunk. The trunk lid can be opened and closed automatically by moving the foot under the rear bumper. This is only one of the factors that provides ease of loading.

First station wagon with Opel Visor and Pure Panel

The new Astra Sports Tourer is the first station wagon model interpreted with Opel's bold and simple design philosophy. The new brand face, Opel Visor, draws attention at first glance with the sharp curve of the engine hood and the wing-shaped design of the daytime running lights. It also incorporates technologies such as the Visor, adaptive Intelli-Lux LED® Pixel headlights and front camera, covering the entire front. The lighting group Astra, which is the same as the five-door hatchback, strengthens family ties. There are also important developments in the interior. The fully digital Pure Panel human-machine interface (HMI) offers users a simple and intuitive experience. The usage takes place via an extremely large touch screen with the logic of a smartphone. Important settings such as climate control can be selected directly with just a few buttons. In addition, the technology, which detects when the driver takes his hands off the steering wheel, allows the driver to always focus on driving actively.

Unique in the compact class, Intelli-Lux LED® Pixel Headlights The new Astra Sports Tourer displays a clear stance with the technologies it offers to the compact station wagon market. The latest version of the adaptive, glare-free Intelli-Lux LED® Pixel headlight represents just one of these technologies. The system derives directly from Opel's flagships Insignia and Grandland and leads the compact and mid-range lighting technology with its 168 LED cells.

Continuing the brand tradition with its comfort

The tradition of advanced seat comfort typical of the German manufacturer Opel is offered at the highest level in this model as well. The new Astra Sports Tourer's in-house developed, AGR (Healthy Backs Campaign) approved, highly ergonomic front seats are best in the compact class, offering a variety of optional adjustments, from electric backrest to electro-pneumatic lumbar support.
