International Bursa Karagöz Puppet and Shadow Play Festival, organized for the 19th time this year by Bursa Culture, Art and Tourism Foundation, on behalf of the Metropolitan Municipality, with the support of the International Union of Puppet and Shadow Play (UNIMA) and Karagöz and Puppet Plays Research and Application Center (KARAKUM). It was appreciated by children and art lovers on the last day with performances and educational workshops.

In the festival, where different shows and teams take the stage every day in different venues, all the colors of puppetry and shadow art were painted all over the city. On the last day of the festival, the shows, where the children enjoyed themselves, met with art lovers at the Tayyare Cultural Center (TKM), Karagöz Museum and Barış Manço Cultural Center. “Karagöz Bookworm”, the story of imaginary Alpay Ekler telling what happened to Karagöz in the library opened by Hacivat, was reflected on the screen. In the play where the children burst into laughter, Hayali Alpay Ekler's performance received a standing ovation.

Another interesting event at TKM was Aliş Friend's workshop named “Shadows”. In the workshop, Friend told the characters and voices of Şeyh Küşteri, the def and nareke, and the story of Karagöz and Hacivat with drama technique.

Puppet Artist Alican Balakin, on the other hand, gave the audience a pleasant day in his performance at the Barış Manço Cultural Center, with his character İbiş, who lived through funny incidents while he was a watchman in a hotel. The last play of the last day of the festival was the "Goldens of Uludağ" show by Hayali Osman Ezgi at the Karagöz Museum.

“We are looking forward to the next festival”

Children participating in the festival, where 6 teams from 18 different countries performed for 5 days, said that they are looking forward to the next organization. In the festival, where a new performance is presented every day for 5 days with the depictions of puppets and Karagöz; In panels, workshops and seminars, the doyens of the puppet and shadow art shared their knowledge and experience with art lovers. On the last day of the festival, BKSTV General Secretary Fehim Ferik presented a plaque of appreciation to the artists and workshop leaders who performed.

The President of the International Union of Puppet and Shadow Play (UNIMA) Enis Ergün thanked Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and Mayor Alinur Aktaş and BKSTV Chairman Özer Matlı for their contributions to the realization of the event, which made significant contributions to the transfer of puppetry and shadow art to future generations.
