İzmir Metropolitan Municipality introduced the third phase of the Örnekköy Urban Transformation Project. Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Soyer stated that the Metropolitan Municipality has put forth the will to solve the problems of the city even though the conditions are quite difficult and said, “We are building the future of İzmir by agreeing, reconciling and working harder. We are here, we are here,” he said.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which continues its urban transformation works without interruption with the principles of 100 percent consensus, on-site transformation and “Metropolitan assurance and guarantee”, introduced the third stage project, which includes 584 residences and 27 workplaces in the Ornekköy Urban Transformation Area. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor attended the ceremony. “We have taken the full initiative”
Speaking at the project introduction ceremony, the President Tunç SoyerStating that Izmir Metropolitan Municipality offers an unusual method to all public institutions working in the field of urbanism in Turkey with its vision of urban transformation, he said that this is "on-site transformation". Stating that under the institutional power and guarantorship of the Metropolitan Municipality, they carry out urban transformation works with an understanding that is based on reconciliation with the right holders and protecting the right of the citizens of İzmir, Soyer said, “Our municipality does not separate the right holders from their neighborhoods and streets. We have taken full initiative to solve the urban transformation problem of Izmir, which has accumulated from the past to the present. We will overcome these problems not only in Ornekkoy, but throughout Izmir. Never be in any doubt about it. We are rapidly carrying out urban transformation works in six different regions in İzmir. We are carrying out the transformation with the principle of 100% consensus, without sacrificing the rights of our citizens living in Ege Mahallesi, Uzundere, Ballıkuyu, Çiğli Güzeltepe, Gaziemir and Örnekköy.”
Intensive work in all regions
Stating that they handed over 1 independent units to their beneficiaries within the scope of Uzundere 2st and 1nd stage and Örnekköy 960st stage, Soyer emphasized that they started the construction of 2 independent units within the scope of Örnekköy 1nd Stage and Ege Mahallesi 218st Stage. Emphasizing that with the protocols signed between Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and İZBETON, the construction of a total of 3 independent units, namely Örnekköy 4rd and 1th Stage and Aktepe-Emrez 300st Stage, continues, Soyer continued his words as follows: “In the construction of 3 residences in Uzundere 422rd Stage Our Metropolitan Municipality Council took a decision at its December meeting to sign a protocol with İZBETON. In January 2022, we are going to the construction phase here as well. We have brought the construction of 4 more independent units, including Uzundere 5th Stage, Örnekköy 2th Stage, and Aktepe-Emrez 2nd Stage, to the tender stage.”
“We bring together Ornekköy with a healthy infrastructure”
Saying that approximately six thousand citizens live in the Ornekkoy Urban Transformation Area, where agreements were reached with almost all of the residents, contracts were made and their title deeds were obtained, Soyer said, “When our project, which continues in stages on this 18-hectare area, is completed, a total of 3 residences and 520 workplaces have been built. and we will have given the region a brand new face. In this context, we have completed the first phase of our work, and delivered the turnkey of 338 residences and 130 workplaces. The second stage construction works, which we delivered in July 13, covering 2020 residences and 170 workplaces, continue. The third phase, which we are currently promoting, covers a construction area of 20 thousand 76 square meters. The estimated construction cost of this stage is 741 million 251 thousand liras. As a subcontractor in our project, we signed a protocol with the Business World Building Cooperative. With the completion of the third phase works, we will hand over the keys of 821 residences and 584 workplaces to the beneficiaries. In the fourth phase, we will have completed a total of 27 residences and 380 workplaces. We bring together the social facilities, green areas and a healthy infrastructure with on-site transformation, and we achieve this with the institutional power of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. With İZBETON becoming a strong actor in İzmir's urban transformation, we are realizing our vision quickly and effectively despite these difficult economic conditions. We attach great importance to this cooperation in order to renew the building stock of our İzmir.”

Stating that İzmir has deep-rooted problems and the problem of old building stock, Soyer said, “Yes, the sector is in a difficult situation, urban transformation tenders are not in demand. However, we have a Metropolitan Municipality that has a will to solve the problems of İzmir and our stakeholders who share this will. By agreeing, reconciling and working harder, we are building the future of İzmir together. We exist, we are here and we stand with the people of Örnekköy and all the people of Izmir. I would like to thank the İZBETON team and all my colleagues for their efforts in this project.”
Emphasis on unity
Mahmut Özgener, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, stated that today is a special and beautiful day, and for his support in the field of cooperatives. Halil Kurt, Chairman of Batı Koop (Western Anatolian Building Cooperatives Union), stated that they would be happy to work with the Metropolitan Municipality for the construction of the third stage in the Ornekköy urban transformation area.
Karşıyaka Mayor Cemil Tugay said, “A very successful urban transformation project has been implemented in Örnekköy, under the auspices of the Metropolitan Municipality, with one hundred percent consensus since the beginning.
