Statement from Karaismailoğlu on Bridge and Highway Tolls

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu answered questions on the agenda in the live broadcast of NTV.

Regarding the bridge and highway tolls, which will be renewed at the beginning of the year, Karaismailoğlu said, "It is balanced so that the citizens do not have too much burden." Karaismailoğlu said:

“First of all, we need to get into this issue, why are we using this build-operate-transfer finance model? Projects such as the Northern Marmara highway are finished in a short time and are starting to contribute to the economy. It is determined by the return of the construction cost. By the end of the year, it is balanced in such a way that it does not burden the citizens too much. It may be the case that the state undertakes some of this. We can subsidize some of it from the budget and some from the citizen, so as not to be a burden to the citizens. We are in the evaluation phase. It will clear next week. It already emerges as a result of current foreign exchange prices.”
