Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyerdevoted his weekend work to examining the uninterrupted infrastructure works in the city. President Soyer, who received information about the projects carried out by İZSU to prevent floods in Güzelyalı and Balçova, said, “Very important projects are being implemented that will make the city resistant to disasters. All of our units are working hard to avoid the floods caused by heavy rains again.”

Soyer received information from İZSU General Manager Aysel Özkan about the projects in Güzelyalı and Balçova, which are carried out in order not to repeat the problems caused by excessive precipitation.
The problem is over in Güzelyalı 16 Street
Examining the infrastructure works completed in and around Mithatpaşa Street between Üçkuyular and Güzelyalı, which had a major problem due to the flooding of the Poligon Stream during the record rain on the night of February 2, Soyer said that it is pleasing that there was no flood in the region despite the heavy rains last week.
Stating that they took action quickly by developing special projects for the problem areas in the city, Soyer said, “Very important projects are being implemented that will make the city resistant to disasters. All of our units are working hard to avoid the floods caused by heavy rains again. İZSU established a rainwater pumping station with a depth of 16 meters at Güzelyalı 4 Street. Rain water collected by 3 pressurized lines is discharged to Poligon Stream via the pump station. In addition, lines were manufactured in the surrounding streets that directly transport the rain water to the sea. All the troubled streets were grilled. In addition, the sequential grid productions across the Air Language School on Mithatpaşa Street were completed, and the said grid line was connected to the gallery line on the opposite side of the road. We have seen in the last rains that these studies have yielded results. "There was no problem in the region," he said.
Work continues in Balçova
Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, also examined the flood prevention and stream rehabilitation works covering the section of the Hacı Ahmet Stream in Balçova between Fethi Bey Street and Nazım Street. Within the scope of these works, İZSU General Directorate carries out route and section renewal-expansion works in the 520-meter section of the stream bed, as well as 3 stream road crossings.
What to do in Güzelyalı?
General Directorate of İZSU has built sedimentation ponds and pumping stations as well as in-line gratings for the efficient collection of rain water in the region. Grid line cleaning was carried out along the Mehmetçik Boulevard route. Additional stormwater grates were fabricated. In addition, the separation of sewer lines and storm water lines has been completed. Grill productions that started from Mehmetçik Boulevard continued on İnönü Street and Mithatpaşa Street, and a generation was formed with the productions made on 20 and 20/2 streets. A pump station pool was built in the 16th Street area in order to avoid problems in evacuation due to low elevation differences from the said belt. This station discharges the rain water in the region to Poligon Stream with 3 pipes. At the same time, a rainwater drainage line was created with pipes with a diameter of 16 mm opening to the beach from 1400 streets. In addition to these works, the rain water removal capacity will be increased with 4 pumps and 600 mm diameter pressure pipes in the pump station pool established in the Air Language School.
