IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluspoke at the meeting where the city announced the 'Sports Master Plan'. Saying, “The results of scientific research conducted all over the world show how important sports are in personal health,” İmamoğlu gave comparative examples on the subject, from the TV viewing rate to obesity, from the number of people with diabetes to the number of people participating in regular physical activity in the Istanbul-Turkey-Europe triangle. Stating that Istanbul's scorecard is weak in this sense, İmamoğlu said, "Because of all these data, we are starting a mobilization for Istanbul to become a sports city. Together, we will transform our Istanbul into a city where everyone can do sports anywhere. For the first time in Turkey, a city is declaring mobilization by preparing a sports master plan.”

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğluannounced the "Sports Master Plan", which includes the sports vision, goals, strategic goals and projects of the institution. Speaking at the presentation held at the Istanbul Congress Center in which CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu was also present, İmamoğlu said, “Our Sports Master Plan; We prepared it with the intense work of our İBB Youth and Sports Directorate, our subsidiary company Spor İstanbul and BİMTAŞ teams.” Reminding that they announced the will of Istanbul for the 2036 Olympics in the past days, İmamoğlu said, “And I feel this excitement wholeheartedly. Hosting the Olympics is not a goal for us; It is a powerful tool for the development of sports culture in our city, increasing the motivation of the city to do sports and making the Olympic values ​​a part of daily life.”

“WE ARE STARTING MOBILIZATION TO MAKE ISTANBUL A SPORTS CITY”

Expressing that every city that is a candidate for the Olympics started by preparing a comprehensive sports master plan in order to spread the Olympic culture to the city, İmamoğlu summarized the work they will do in this context. “WE DID SURVEY WITH 9 PEOPLE”

Saying, "We have prepared a plan that prioritizes the social and cultural aspects, to adopt sports as a way of life without focusing on establishment," said İmamoğlu, "While we were preparing our sports master plan; We reviewed the plans, actions, physical activity and sports trends of other cities around the world. We looked at the current inventory situation in Istanbul. As a result of the analyzes we worked on, we prepared our district district sports score map. Then we held a series of workshops and focus group meetings. We came together with nearly 12 of our stakeholders in 200 themes and received their invaluable views on this process.” Noting that in the workshops they held, all individuals, institutions and organizations in the society discussed their relations with sports, İmamoğlu underlined that they conducted surveys with a total of 9 people consisting of trainers, licensed active athletes, sports school administrators, federation managers and households.

"OUR VISION; AN ACTIVE ISTANBUL WITH HIGH QUALITY OF LIFE”

Expressing that they have determined the vision of IMM on this subject as “An active Istanbul with a high quality of life, which has adopted sports as a way of life”, İmamoğlu also stated that their corporate goal is “to increase the level of physical activity and mobility of all Istanbul residents; to contribute to raising the level of social and individual health; to contribute to the increase in the number of licensed and active athletes; to increase the number of people benefiting from sports facilities; to increase local, national and international sports events; to develop sports volunteering and increase the number of volunteers”. Pointing out that they aim to ensure participation, accountability and transparency in sports management, İmamoğlu underlined that they will attach importance to coordination between institutions in this context.

ANNOUNCED STARTEGIC TARGETS

Expressing that they aim to increase the number of sports venues, İmamoğlu said, “All these strategic goals we want to realize; We divided them into action periods as '2025 short term', '2035 medium term' and '2050 long term'. İmamoğlu said, "While we were preparing our master plan, we started many projects for different target audiences simultaneously," and briefly shared the following information:

“With our 'Yürü Be İstanbul' application, which we launched on October 18, 2021, we reached 90.000 users. We are targeting 250.000 users per year. 2021 days a week in 4, Kadıköy- We organized events on 2 lines, 6 times in Beşiktaş, Üsküdar-Eminönü. We reach an average of 300 participants per day. We have implemented our 'Exercise at Home' program. We bring together expert trainers with Istanbulites on our @ibbsporistanbul Instagram account every day of the week so that everyone can exercise regularly at home. We broadcast 2021 sessions live in 285.000. We implemented our 'Outdoor Exercises' project. in 2019; We held 20 sessions in 38 districts, 38.939 locations. in 2021; We reached a total of 37 sessions in over 220 locations in 183.000 districts.”

“WE ARE GOING ON A LONG JOURNEY”

Sharing detailed numerical information about the work they do for professional athletes, women, children and the disabled, İmamoğlu said, “We are embarking on a long mobilization and journey. The name of this journey is 'the journey of making Istanbul a sports city.' To increase the interest in sports in all segments; make both team and individual sports accessible to all; It will be our goal to train more and more successful national athletes and to train more international champions in every field. We have prepared a sustainable sports strategy and master plan that will touch 16 million people. Our goal is; to bring every Istanbulite together with sports. Spreading the sports culture in Istanbul and starting an Olympic movement," he said.

“HUMAN-FOCUSED URBAN JOURNEY”

“All our dreams are; Saying that Istanbul will turn into a city where millions of people do sports in the near future, İmamoğlu said, “In summary; This journey is a human-oriented urban journey. We will work harder to realize all this journey and projects we have designed. Together, we will take steps to become a vibrant, fit, happy and healthy city. I want all the people of this city to become truly healthy individuals. A city with healthy individuals turns into a resilient city in every respect. In a city with healthy individuals, everyone has better thoughts and more positive thoughts. This ensures that we are a happy city.”

IMM Assembly CHP Group Deputy Chairman Doğan Subaşı, İBB Assembly IYI Party Group Deputy Chairman İbrahim Özkan, İBB Sports Club President Fatih Keleş, Spor İstanbul General Manager Renay Onur and Turkish National Olympic Committee President Uğur Erdener and İBB Sports Club athletes were among the participants of the event.
