Avoid These Foods If You Are Pregnant!

Saying that paying attention to nutrition during pregnancy contributes to a healthy pregnancy and a problem-free birth, Gynecology Obstetrics and IVF Specialist Op. Dr. Onur Meray made statements about the nutrition method and foods that should be avoided during pregnancy. For a healthy pregnancy and uneventful delivery, some foods must be completely abandoned or restricted. So what are these foods and food groups?

Junk food snacks

During pregnancy, both the healthy development of the baby in the womb and the health of the mother are directly related to the food and beverages consumed by the mother. Consumption of high-calorie, processed, and low-nutrient foods can cause inadequate intake of many nutrients, such as iron, protein and folic acid, that the mother needs for baby development. For this reason, the group that should be removed from the list and abandoned first is the group we call junk food.

Alcohol

Alcoholic beverages should not be taken during pregnancy as they increase the risk of miscarriage and stillbirth. It is never right to use the excuse that I bought too little, because even very little alcohol has a negative effect on brain development in the baby.

Unpasteurized beverage groups

Unpasteurized beverages may contain bacteria such as Salmonella, E. Coli, and listeria. All of these bacterial infections threaten the life of the baby. In order to eliminate the risk of infection, it is recommended to consume milk, cheese, dairy products and some fruit juices as pasteurized.

Caffeine

High caffeine intake during pregnancy can cause fetal development to slow and the baby to be born low in weight. In addition, caffeine intake should be limited to 200 mg during pregnancy, as caffeine is rapidly absorbed and passes to the placenta and fetus. This is equivalent to an average of 2 cups of coffee.

Raw Eggs, undercooked or raw meat and raw fish

It would be beneficial not to prefer foods that are consumed raw, as they increase the risk of bacterial infection. Nausea, vomiting, fever, stomach cramps and uterine contractions can occur as a result of these infections. It can also cause premature birth or stillbirth. In addition to these, it is important to pay attention to well-cooked and pasteurized nutrition, as some infections cause permanent neurological damage to the baby.

Fish with High Mercury

Mercury is a highly toxic element and is especially high in polluted seas. High mercury intake causes toxic effects on kidneys, immune system and nervous system. Especially in the ocean, swordfish, shark and tuna are high in mercury. The mercury rate is not high in every fish and it is important to feed with fish during pregnancy, but the fish to be consumed should be well researched and decided.
