Emotional Meeting at the Historical Bilecik Train Station

The 101st anniversary of the Bilecik Interview, held at the historical Bilecik Train Station, was celebrated with an enthusiastic ceremony. At the ceremony organized jointly by Bilecik Municipality and Bilecik Governorship Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Atatürk's arrival in Bilecik to participate in the interview was revived 101 years later.

Bilecik Interview, which was one of the turning points of the National Struggle and the first step of the process leading to the rupture of the Treaty of Sevres, which would drag the country into captivity, took place exactly 101 years ago at the Historical Bilecik Train Station. This special day was commemorated 101 years later in the same place with a ceremony. Bilecik Governor Dr. Kemal Kızılkaya, Bilecik Deputy Selim Yağcı, Mayor Semih Şahin, Bilecik 2nd Gendarmerie Training Brigade Commander Brigadier General Vedat Çolak and the provincial protocol attended.

The 101st Anniversary program of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's Arrival in Bilecik and Bilecik Interview started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem. After the poems of Murat Hüdavendigar Secondary School students, Bilecik Local Folklore Team performed dance performances. Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. After Taner Bilgin's mini-conference on “A Turning Point in the National Struggle: Bilecik”, Rhythm Dance School presented the Bilecik Interview with theatrical animation. The show, which was highly appreciated and applauded for minutes, gave the audience emotional moments.

WHAT HAPPENED IN BİLECİK ON DECEMBER 5, 1920?

The Head of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and the Government, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and the representative of the Istanbul (Ottoman) Government, Minister of Internal Affairs A. İzzet Pasha and the accompanying delegation came together at the Bilecik Train Station. This meeting, which went down in history as the Bilecik Interview, was the first official meeting of the Istanbul Government with the Ankara Government.

In this process, when the imperialist invaders forced the country to surrender completely with the Treaty of Sèvres, this meeting, which was held in order to force the Turkish Grand National Assembly Government established in Ankara to cooperate, turned into a pillar to light the fire of independence with the astute stance of Mustafa Kemal and his friends. The Historical Train Station, where the Bilecik Interview took place, which was the first official step of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey erecting the Barricade of the Pact against the Sevres captivity, is still standing in all its splendor and is open to visitors.
