TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ General Manager Hasan Pezük, together with Georgian railway officials, made inspections at the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line and Ahılkelek station, which is the most important transfer center of the Middle Corridor.

Pezuk underlined that they held talks with my Colleague David Paradze, General Manager of Georgian Railways, and his delegation in Tbilisi to increase international freight transports in the Middle Corridor and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Line:

“While most of the international trade in the world is carried out by sea, the congestion experienced in Asian ports, price fluctuations in maritime transportation and the following covid-19 pandemic process; It prioritizes the development of railways and giving more weight to railway transportation. The transportation time of a product between Europe and China takes approximately 5-9 days by air, 15-19 days by rail, and 40-60 days by sea. The railway has significant advantages over seaway and airway in terms of price and time in transportations to inland areas far from the ports. Therefore, the transportations on the Middle Corridor, which is the most important link of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Line, are increasing in terms of both quantity and product variety.

“We continue to cooperate closely with regional railway administrations to make this railway corridor more effective and efficient.” Pezuk reminded that Eurasia Rail Fair, which is the only fair in Eurasia and the third largest fair in the world in the field of railway and light rail systems, held in Istanbul between 25-27 November will also offer very important opportunities in this sense.

Pezuk also; “Export, import and transit freight transport with Georgia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asian Turkic Republics over the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, which was put into operation in 2017, is gaining even more momentum with the pandemic.” said.

Pezük was accompanied by TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ Deputy General Manager Çetin Altun and Head of Freight Department Mehmet Altınsoy.
