Karaismailoğlu: Besides 5G Technology, We Are Making Preparations For The 6G System

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu emphasized that the total number of broadband subscribers exceeded the population of Turkey with 87 million and said, “It is not possible to curb technology. In this sense, we have made significant investments in terms of both fixed and mobile and satellite infrastructures in our country.” Karaismailoğlu, who stated that they will commission 5G networks using domestic and national products, drew attention to the fact that they are currently preparing for the 5G system as well as 6G technology.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu attended the opening ceremony of Bilişim Zirvesi'21 online. Karaismailoğlu said, “Humanity has always remembered the time periods it spent with the technological developments that left its mark on that era, and gave these innovations appropriate names. The First Industrial Revolution, which started with the invention of steam engines, was followed by the Second Industrial Revolution, which started with the use of electrical energy in 1870, and the mechanization period that followed. After the 1970s, humanity stepped into the Third Industrial Revolution with the leap experienced with the spread of computers and automation. The most important dynamic that has left its mark on the 21st century we live in is undoubtedly computers and communication technologies. Our age has begun to be called 'Industry 4.0' or the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the digital transformation movement that has accelerated with the internet and mobility. We are now at a highly developed stage in terms of communication technologies. We use communication tools at every stage of our daily life, especially the Internet.

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO GET TECHNOLOGY

Explaining that communication is made with smart phones, tablets and laptop computers, and that the internet and mass media are used very intensively, Karaismailoğlu said that we are living in an information age where technology progress and innovations accelerate the flow of time.

Karaismailoğlu continued his speech as follows:

“Innovations in information and communication technology have now changed the chemistry of societies. Societies began to demand not only what was offered to them, but the best in the world in every field. It is clear that countries that do not understand this will lag behind developments and time. It is an indisputable fact that; It is impossible to curb technology. If the name of this age is informatics, not taking it into account in the steps you will take will be the biggest mistake you will make at this time. The future profiles in the science fiction movies that we watch with excitement today manifest one by one in real life. What you call fantasy today is the reality of tomorrow.”

WE ARE LIVING A DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

Noting that the main purpose of communication services in the early 1990s was to offer this service only to individuals, Karaismailoğlu said, “Today, we have the understanding of delivering this service to people faster, safer and more economically with the most innovative technologies. We are experiencing a digital transformation. A must for digital transformation is strong electronic communication infrastructures on land, at sea and in the air. digital transformation; First of all, it depends on the existence of strong infrastructures and the accessibility of the services provided through these infrastructures by the citizens. In this sense, we have made significant investments in terms of fixed, mobile and satellite infrastructures in our country. From now on, we are intertwined with technology applications such as internet, mobility, internet of things, cloud, artificial intelligence, robot technologies, data analytics.”

Underlining that there were 2003 thousand broadband subscribers in Turkey in 18, and that the number of subscribers reached 2010 million in 7,1 and 17,5 million today, with the right and appropriate investments, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said that while this development was taking place in fixed broadband, the mobile broadband service that started in 2009 has also increased. He said that it has spread rapidly across the country and that the number of mobile broadband subscribers has exceeded 69 million today.

Emphasizing that the total number of broadband subscribers exceeded the population of Turkey with 87 million, Karaismailoğlu made the following assessments:

“Especially in recent years, the type of service that we have shown the greatest improvement in fixed broadband is fiber subscribers. While the number of our fiber subscribers was around 2010 thousand in 150, it has reached 4,5 million today. This means that approximately one out of every four fixed subscribers receives fiber internet service. Now, when we look at the technologically international position of our country, we see that our country has a rising trend in issues such as the prevalence of mobile networks, the quality and variety of services provided to subscribers, the development of broadband, and investments in fiber.”

EXPORTS OF THE SECTOR EXCEED 10 BILLION TL

Referring to the importance of domestic and national production in the digitalization process, Karaismailoğlu stated that with the 'National Technology Move' in the vision of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the share of domestic production in the service and software sub-sectors of the information technology sector has now reached 75 percent. Noting that currently, within the scope of the information and communication sector in Turkey, approximately 84 companies operate in 5 technoparks with 700 thousand employees, Karaismailoğlu stated that the total exports of the sector in 58 increased by half compared to the previous year and exceeded 2020 billion TL.

WE WILL ACTIVATE OUR 5G NETWORKS USING DOMESTIC AND NATIONAL PRODUCTS

Karaismailoğlu said, “We are successfully continuing our work with all our stakeholders with the aim of putting 5G at the service of our people with our domestic and national products. With this goal, we established the Communication Technologies Cluster in 2017. We have developed the 'End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Communication Network Project' for our hardware and software needs on the way to 5G. In the first phase of the project, we prepared the R&D processes and prototypes of products such as 5G new radio, core network, Network Management System, Radyolink. We are now working on the production process. As a result of the studies, we will commission our 5G networks by using domestic and national products whose end-to-end security mechanism is known and controlled.”

WE ARE PREPARING FOR THE 5G SYSTEM IN ADDITION TO 6G TECHNOLOGY

Emphasizing that with the project, they aim to supply world-class domestic and national 5G products both to the domestic market and to other countries, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu concluded his words as follows:

“Developments in communication technologies are so fast that we started talking about 5G technology before 6G became more widespread. Compared to 5G, 6G wireless networks are expected to provide much higher spectrum, energy and cost efficiency, higher data rate, more automation possibilities. We have implemented important academic studies on 6G with our operators and especially at universities in our country. We are currently preparing for the 5G system as well as the 6G technology. Because countries that can have a say in technological innovations; There will be those who can produce their own technologies and enter the game before anyone else. In addition to these efforts, we will take our place among the leaders in our region and among the leading countries in the world in information and communication, especially with the support of our domestic and national satellite technologies. We are moving forward with strong and determined steps in Turkey's digital transformation journey.”
