The “Phrygian Geopark Search Meeting as an Integrated Regional Development Tool” organized in cooperation with the Governorship of Eskişehir and Anadolu University started with the opening ceremony held at Anadolu University Yunus Emre Campus Student Center Foyer and Hall 2016 at 10.00:XNUMX. Phrygia constitutes one of the valuable areas of Turkey within the borders of Eskişehir, Afyon and Kütahya provinces, where archaeological traces are most evident in the historical geography region. In this context, according to the study prepared in cooperation with Anadolu University and Bursa, Eskişehir, Bilecik Development Agency (BEBKA), it is determined that the Phrygian Geopark is potentially suitable for the travel motivations of the citizens of many countries. .

Anadolu University Rector Prof. Dr. Fuat Erdal gave the following words in his speech: “Welcome to this beautiful meeting of this geography, which has hosted many civilizations throughout history. Phrygian Geopark, Afyon, Kütahya is among the most valuable areas of Turkey, bearing the traces of the archaeological history of civilizations that lived in the Eskişehir region for centuries. As Anadolu University, we wanted to contribute to reviving this common culture. In this region, there are traces of treasures and values of a civilization such as the Phrygian Civilization, which lived on this land for years. This project, which we are considering in order to reveal these values and to introduce these treasures as the common heritage of humanity, has been instrumental in us coming together with other provinces. Our deputies Prof. Dr. Nabi Avcı and Prof. Dr. Emine Nur Günay, as an academician, made a proposal to hold a workshop on behalf of this project, where we could discuss it in detail. It is very valuable to see what our Kütahya and Afyon Provinces have done so far, to listen to what they will share and to talk about what we can do. With this project, we aim at development that provides a common welfare. Geotourism is a sustainable tourism method. In this sense, various models have been applied in the world, among these models, it is one of the latest models developed for areas open to improvement, and it is also one of the methods that directly combat climate change. Unesco Global Geoparks Member and Turkey Representative Dr. Instructor Erdal Gümüş, a member of the workshop, gave the following words in his speech titled “Geoparks and Unesco Geoparks Network”: “We are in a very important project together with everyone here. Geoparks have a very good status in terms of international prestige in rural development and tourism. In this sense, we can see geopark projects, which also include protection from natural disasters and combating climate change, as an important breakthrough in nature protection.”
After the opening speeches, in the first part of the meeting, the participants, Search Meeting Manager Anadolu University Faculty of Communication Sciences Faculty Member Prof. Dr. They came together in a brainstorming session moderated by Erol Nezih Orhon. The meeting will continue throughout the day with a structured group meeting and a conclusion meeting, after the part where all the participants conveyed their ideas about the Phrygian Geopark area.
