Chamber of Civil Engineers (IMO) Bursa Branch held the "Future Vision of Bursa Transportation Workshop". The effects of the pandemic on transportation, public transportation integration, urban transportation systems, smart transportation activities, planning of Bursa transportation investments and electric transportation vehicles of the future were discussed by academicians, institution officials and civil engineers working in this field.
The Future Vision of Bursa Transportation Workshop, organized by IMO Bursa Branch, was held at the Branch Conference Hall in the BAOB Campus.

SARIBAL: “PLANKS MUST BE IMPLEMENTED”
Speaking at the opening, CHP Bursa Deputy Orhan Sarıbal thanked those who contributed to the organization of the Workshop and noted that transportation is a reality of Turkey and that it should be evaluated through it. Sarıbal pointed out that the long-term evacuation of the countryside, the agglomeration of the cities, and the traffic problems caused by the diversion of everyone to the West, drew attention to the fact that the plans prepared with long efforts were not implemented. Stating that there are buildings like mushrooms in agricultural lands, Sarıbal said that the city's water will not be enough in the future. Deputy Saribal noted that the most important thing is the implementation of the prepared plans.
ILICALI: “YOU CANNOT SOLVE THE TRAFFIC PROBLEM WITHOUT SOLVE THE TRANSPORTATION PROBLEM”
22nd and 26th Term Erzurum Deputy, Transportation Expert Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ilıcalı made an evaluation about the transportation problem and said, "If you can't solve a city's transportation problem, you can't solve the traffic problem anyway. If you can't associate the transportation problem with the land use decisions according to the city plans and apply it without making concessions, you still cannot solve it. Transportation is a technical issue and all presidents and politicians should arm in arm and solve it. This city needs to be made in the parliament, it needs legal regulations, this city needs the work of the central administration. This coordination needs to be ensured,” he said.
AKTAŞ: “TRANSPORTATION PROBLEM RESULTS OF TENS OF ERRORS”
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş conveyed the works they carried out regarding transportation and said, “The transportation problem is the problem of dozens of mistakes made. Bursa is a city with a high rent and a commercial economy. On the one hand, we have responsibilities to fix many parts of the city, especially the Persians. Different views and opinions may arise. We are going through a process that we have never seen in the last 20 months. Many things have changed with the pandemic. We couldn't go out. Individual vehicle ownership has increased significantly. While there is 4 vehicle for 1 people in Turkey, it is 3 vehicle for 1 people in Bursa. We have around 1 million motor vehicles. Istanbul's population dropped to 59 thousand. As Bursa, we have increased by 62 thousand. It fell in Izmir. We are still one of the growing cities. On the one hand, there is a demand for industrialization. I think Bursa needs an industry with high added value. We continue our transportation investments. We made our transportation planning for 2035. We are going through a difficult process, we are going through a process where costs are increasing.”
President Aktaş stated that traffic is a cultural issue and emphasized that this should be instilled before kindergarten and awareness should be created.
ALBAYRAK: “PANDEMI INCREASED TRANSPORTATION PROBLEMS”
Mehmet Albayrak, Head of IMO Bursa Branch, stated that transportation is one of the city's top priority problems and said, "Our Bursa, which has received rapid immigration since the 1980s with the effect of industrialization, may not have met in those years, but has felt the pressure seriously since 1995. has grown and grown to this day. The transportation problem experienced by every city with a population density above the average in the world is also seriously felt in Bursa. As stated by our invaluable scientists, as we follow and witness in daily life, transportation-related problems are difficult to solve and costly. The conclusion to be drawn from here is that the problems related to transportation should be kept under control without increasing and multiplying, and the solution should be acted with common mind and planned very well, "he said.
Stating that as civil engineers living in this city, they organize workshops to share their technical perspectives and ideas that they believe will be guiding with the public, President Albayrak conveyed what was expressed at the workshop held in 2019 as follows:
“Composing the main veins of a city, connecting countries and cities from one place to another; The roads that bring people together, and therefore the transportation network, have been the problem of cities that develop unplanned. Transportation problem is not a cause, it is a result. When planning the city, everything should be thought through to the smallest detail and applied accordingly. The conclusion to be drawn from here is that the problems related to transportation should be kept under control without increasing and multiplying, and the solution should be acted with common sense and planned very well.”
ALBAYRAK: “2035 TRANSPORTATION MASTER PLAN SHOULD BE REVISED”
Emphasizing that the 2019 Bursa Transportation Master Plan Master Plan, the preparation process of which was carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality in January 2035, should be revised due to the changing supply-demand balance after the pandemic, Albayrak said: exacerbated the related problems. Because the supply-demand balance in transportation has deteriorated, increasing the problems. While the number of passengers per car was around 2020, it is seen that it decreased to almost 1.5.
Emphasizing that the impact of transportation problems on climate change is significant, IMO Bursa Branch President Albayrak said that this issue was conveyed by one of his colleagues at the Workshop in 2019:
“One of the most important human activities affecting climate change is transportation. Especially in road transportation, the rate of use of fossil fuels is very high. This is the main factor in the increase in the carbon dioxide rate. Therefore, increasing greenhouse gases cause global warming.
ALBAYRAK: “FUTURE OF THE WORLD AND OUR COUNTRY DEPENDS ON THE CLIMATE AGREEMENT”
Albayrak stated that with the Paris Climate Agreement approved in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, a new era will begin that requires major changes not only in the energy sector but also in ecological, economic and social policies. In simpler terms, here is the direct relationship of traffic congestion with climate change and therefore with the “Paris agreement” we accepted. Considering that there are many other reflections such as air pollution, noise pollution, water and soil pollution, we think that a new planning is urgently needed. From this point of view, it will be inevitable to revise the Bursa Transportation Master Plan, which was first approved with the target of 2040 with the target of 1/100.000 and then with the target of 2035. The future of our country and all other countries; It will not be different from the climatic and environmental future of the world. From this point of view, we can easily state that: As Bursa, as a country and as all the countries of the world, we have to adapt to the climate agreement. How the future of the world will be shaped will depend on this harmony," he said.
President Albayrak stated that they are ready to fulfill their duties as the Academic Chamber in order for Bursa to become a planned city with its transportation, construction, green, history and industry, and encouraged the managers of local administrations and relevant public institutions to take advantage of the knowledge and experience in the workshop and to take them into account when planning. wanted.
BOZBEY: “WE HAVE TO PLAN THE CITY AND THE FUTURE OF THE CITY”
Nilüfer Municipality Past Mayor Mustafa Bozbey stated that the workshop should be presented to Bursa as an important project and emphasized the importance of planning in transportation. Bozbey, if you cannot plan the city and the future of the city, we unfortunately have to agree with the results. If you continue to intensify the interior of the city while planning the city, you will not be able to solve the transportation no matter what you do. You solve the part. You create air pollution. Today, Bursa is one of the cities with the most polluted air. We all breathe this air. Planning is the first requirement in this regard. In every period, we take the plan, we change it, we translate it and we make it according to ourselves. Unfortunately, we continue to pollute the city," he said.
Bozbey emphasized that city administrators should be determined against oppression.

Feridun Tetik, Secretary of the Provincial Coordination Board, said that the Transportation Master Plan and the Environmental Plan do not overlap with each other and said, "Let's deal with this issue in the 5 Environmental Plan, which is one of the 2040th most polluted provinces in Turkey, which cannot reach Bursa, and whose air is not enough for drinking water. Nilüfer Stream does not flow by saying it should flow cleanly. We must determine how we will do this. I demand that the 2040 Environmental Plan be made jointly by all stakeholders”.
