Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is preparing to cooperate with Izmir Chamber of Veterinarians to increase the number of sterilized stray animals. In addition to sterilization, the protocol on studies including rabies vaccine, parasitic drug application and marking will be voted on at the November parliamentary meeting.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which has doubled the number of stray animals it has sterilized in the last two and a half years in order to prevent uncontrolled reproduction of stray animals and to protect animal rights and public health, is preparing to sign a cooperation that will accelerate its efforts. With the protocol to be signed with the Izmir Chamber of Veterinarians, it is aimed to increase the number of stray animals that are sterilized through polyclinics and animal hospitals that are members of the chamber. The cooperation protocol will be put on the agenda at the November parliamentary meeting. In addition to sterilization, the protocol, which includes parasitic drug application and rabies vaccination, will be implemented after the approval of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Assembly. Within the scope of the protocol, stray animals will be marked and recorded by attaching ear tags and microchips. The application to be implemented within the scope of the Animal Protection Law No. 5199, Balçova, Bayraklı, Bornova, Buca, Çiğli, Gaziemir, Güzelbahçe, Karabağlar, Karşıyaka, Konak, Narlıdere districts, as well as other districts deemed necessary.

Coordination Center will be established

Operations will be carried out by establishing a "Coordination Center" within the body of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. The examination, vaccination, internal and external parasitic medicine application of the stray dogs brought to the shelters by the Izmir Chamber of Veterinarians under the control of the veterinarian will be carried out by the veterinarians of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. After the microchip application, the stray dogs will be transferred to the hospital or polyclinics for the operation. After the operation, the dogs, which were put on earrings and neutered, will be left to the place where they were taken by the Izmir Chamber of Veterinarians after they are cared for in the shelters of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.
