Duty Letter from Health Minister Koca to Chief Physicians: Reduce Working Hours

Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca sent a letter to the chief physicians of Education and Research Hospitals and University Hospitals in 81 provinces about arranging the shifts of assistant physicians according to the legislation.

The following statements were included in the letter sent to a total of 136 chief physicians across Turkey:

“My esteemed chief physician friend,

This letter of mine aims to discuss an extremely important issue with you. You are the people who have first-degree awareness for some of the problems experienced both in health services and in the planning made for the continuation of these services. Your effort is admirable, especially in terms of the process we are going through. On behalf of myself and all my colleagues, I would like to express my thanks again.

Our Circular dated 1.11.2021 and numbered 95796091-010.07 has been delivered to you by the Provincial Health Directorate. The Circular on Watch Services for Persons with Specialty Training requires you to take decisive and permanent steps for a problem that has an urgent solution. We must show full willpower to reduce long and wearisome working hours, and to make shift arrangements in line with our legal regulations and humane conditions. We will be in close, meticulous dialogue with you on this matter.

I believe that you will be one of the best examples of our determination to regulate the shifts of resident doctors in accordance with the legislation. I wish you success in your work.”
