In Etimesgut YHT Main Maintenance Workshop, which is Turkey's first and one of the few facilities in Europe and opened for service in 2017, the maintenance of the train sets is carried out meticulously, taking into account international standards.

High-speed trains (YHT) have been operating in Turkey since 2009. The maintenance of these trains has been carried out at the Etimesgut YHT Main Maintenance Workshop for 4 years.

Hasan Pezük, General Manager of TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ, said that the country's acquaintance with YHT technology and comfort started with the opening of the Ankara-Eskişehir YHT Line in 2009, and then this line was followed by the Ankara-Konya, Ankara-Istanbul, Konya-Istanbul lines.

Stating that as of today, service is provided by YHTs on 4 routes, Pezük said, “We have become the 8th high-speed train operator in the world and the 6th in Europe with the high-speed train lines that we have built and put into operation. We provide combined transportation with train and bus services connected to our YHT lines, and serve 40 percent of our country's population with YHT comfort.” said.

Pezuk stated that 12 kilometers of the 803 kilometers of railway network are operated by YHT, and the construction of 1213 kilometers of YHT line continues.

Stating that they continue their YHT transportation with 12 YHT sets with an operating speed of 250 kilometers per hour and 19 with an operating speed of 300 kilometers per hour, Pezük stated that these sets have the latest technology and standards and provide safe service.

Pezuk said that safety and digitalization are among his priority corporate policies and constitute the main backbone of his understanding of business.

Stating that the routine maintenance of the trains was determined during the cruise and reported to the maintenance center thanks to the new world technology YHT sets and smart systems, Pezük said that the institution gained speed in planning and finishing work.

“Maintenance is Carried out in Special Facilities Equipped with Latest Technology and Workforce”

Stating that they carry out the maintenance and revision works of the latest technology YHT sets in the world, in the facilities equipped with the latest technology and workforce, which are specially designed, Pezük said: “Etimesgut YHT Main Maintenance Workshop, which has completely state-of-the-art technology, has an open area of ​​330 thousand square meters and a closed area of ​​​​55 thousand square meters. Here, the maintenance work of 42 YHT sets can be carried out regularly at the same time. Periodic and pre-service maintenance and heavy maintenance of YHT sets are carefully carried out within the scope of time and mileage values ​​determined by the vehicle manufacturer company, taking into account international standards. In addition, we carry out the cleaning and disinfection of all the supplies and sets that our passengers need before each service.”

Pezuk pointed out that the technicians and engineers working at the facility have the certificate to work on train sets at speeds of 250 kilometers per hour and above, and stated that this way, professional competence and competence are provided.

“Our Etimesgut YHT Main Maintenance Facility, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, which is the first of our country and one of the few facilities in Europe, has been designed considering the environmental and human sensitivity, and the facilities and offices have been manufactured for disabled access.” Pezük explained that the material warehouse of the maintenance complex serves fully automatically, the storage of spare parts is provided when needed, and computer-controlled robotic equipment is done quickly and safely.

Pezük stated that as the General Directorate of TCDD Transportation, they are working to provide fast, comfortable, safe and economical transportation to the public by spreading YHT transportation all over the country with the support of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

Giving the information that 12 of the YHT sets have a passenger capacity of 411 and 19 of them 482 passengers, Pezuk said that 40 trips are made daily with these sets, and a passenger capacity of 20 thousand people is provided by covering 18 thousand kilometers.

“Our Facility Has Been Specially Designed For YHT Maintenance”

Onur Şengün, Etimesgut YHT Main Maintenance Workshop Manager, also stated that they are operating the YHT with the best sets in the world at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour. Şengün said, “We carry out the maintenance of these sets at the Etimesgut YHT Main Maintenance Workshop, which has the world's newest technology and is specially designed for YHT maintenance. In the facility, which has a 36-kilometer-long railway line used as a maintenance, test and parking road, dynamic tests of the sets up to 40 kilometers per hour can be carried out, as well as dynamic tests of domestically produced railway vehicles. The dynamic tests of the railway vehicles produced by a local company and sold to the European country were carried out in our facility.” said.

Emphasizing that the personnel working at the facility has more than 10 years of experience in being a YHT operator and maintainer, Şengün said that in this way, nearly 50 modifications were made in the YHT sets, and steps were taken in the name of localization and nationalization. Şengün stated that thanks to the YHT simulator in the facility, the personnel who will join the family with the YHT Machining Course have completed their training in the digital environment and started their experience rides.

Onur Şengün stated that Etimesgut YHT Main Maintenance Workshop provides services on a 51-hour shift basis with 307 employees, including 132 engineers, 490 technicians and 24 support personnel.

“The Sets are Prepared for the Next Day's Campaign in the Workshop”

Etimesgut YHT Main Maintenance Workshop Chief Technician Feridun Cengiz Akkan noted that he has been interested in the maintenance of YHTs since 2009, when they started to serve, and that he started working at this facility when the Main Maintenance Workshop was put into service in 2017.

Informing that 12 of the sets are CAF and 19 of them are Siemens brand, Akkan said that 8 of them are on the Ankara-Istanbul line, 5 of them are Ankara-Konya, 4 of them are Konya-Istanbul and 3 of them are on the Ankara-Eskişehir line. He said he was traveling.

Akkan stated that at the end of the day, some of the YHTs stayed in the regions and some of them were brought to the Etimesgut YHT Main Maintenance Workshop and said, “The sets that come to the workshop are ready for the next day's journey after all kinds of mechanical, periodic, daily and weekly, exterior, roof maintenances are done. being made.” said.
