Ankara Fire Department warned the citizens to have their chimneys cleaned due to the approach of the winter season. Salih Kurumlu, Head of the Fire Department of the Metropolitan Municipality, recommended at least once a year chimney cleaning in order to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning and chimney ignitions, especially building and residential fires, with the increase in the use of stoves in the Capital.
Metropolitan Municipality Fire Brigade Department, taking into account the increasing use of stoves with the approach of the winter season, accelerated the chimney cleaning works to prevent chimney ignitions, building fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Ankara Fire Department warned citizens with residences to have their chimneys cleaned at least once a year, and industrial and business owners at least twice a year.
CHIMNEYS ARE CLEANED FOR FREE FOR FAMILIES IN NEED
Stating that the use of stoves has increased in the Başkent with the cold weather and they provide chimney cleaning services against the risk of building fire, Fire Department Head Salih Kurumlu warned the citizens of the Capital to take chimney cleaning seriously:
“Ankara Fire Department's services include chimney cleaning. As the winter months approach, especially carbon monoxide poisoning increases. We also make suggestions to our citizens to have their chimneys cleaned, both on their own and on the website of the metropolitan municipality. We do chimney cleaning for a small amount. We carry out the chimney cleaning of places of worship, public schools, citizens in need of help and citizens who certify that they are disabled individuals, free of charge. We invite citizens to be more careful and sensitive about chimney cleaning. In the winter season, we also issue warnings within the meteorological data. When there is a strong southwester, fatal cases increase due to chimney poisoning, more precisely due to carbon monoxide poisoning. If our citizens have their chimneys cleaned once a year, we will not face tragedies.”

A citizen named Bayram Manas, who lives in Altındağ district and called Ankara Fire Department for chimney cleaning, said that firefighters came in a short time and completed the cleaning work.
Stating that the warnings of the Ankara Fire Department about chimney cleaning should be taken into account, Manas said, “I went to the Fire Brigade Department for the chimney cleaning of my house and made my application. The people involved took a close interest in me. They recorded my request and the next day they came to my house and cleaned my chimney. I will spend the winter season peacefully and safely. I would like to thank our Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş and his team for solving the problems of the citizens in a short time and helping them in every way.”

Citizens who want to have the chimneys of their residences or workplaces cleaned can apply in person from the website of the Metropolitan Municipality or by going to the Ankara Fire Department Central Station.
The chimney cleaning fee schedule to be implemented by the Ankara Fire Department for 2021 is as follows:
- STOVE-COMBI CHIMNEY: 50 TL
- BOILER CHIMNEY SINGLE: 100 TL
- BOILER CHIMNEY DOUBLE: 200 TL
- INDUSTRIAL AND RESTAURANT CHIMNEY: 250 TL
- FIREPLACE CHIMNEY: 100 TL
- BBQ CHIMNEY: 100 TL
