Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, who made a statement at the assembly meeting based on the preliminary scientific reports published after the landslide in Harmandalı Tunç Soyer“Izmirians can relax. There is no garbage leachate or methane gas leakage related to the Harmandalı Garbage Facility.

The second meeting of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality November council meeting, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer made under his management. At the meeting, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Yıldız Devran made a presentation on the landslide in Harmandalı. Stating that the studies and projects in the field continue with academicians, Devran said, “We took action quickly on the precautions to be taken. After the tender, the studies were started. Monitoring of the field continues with academic opinions. We are working on the determination of the slip mechanism, the determination of the solution methods and the measures to be taken. We quickly took action. We continue to lay the drainage line for the collection of surface water and spring water in the area. Additional measures to be taken will be presented to us in the report to be published later. Every issue that will affect the environment and public health is meticulously followed.

Soyer: “Izmirians can relax”

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer He said, “Izmirians can relax. There is no garbage leachate or methane gas leakage related to the Harmandalı Landfill Facility. This has been determined by the preliminary scientific reports we received from the professors of Dokuz Eylül University. But I think the final report will be out in 1 month. In line with this report, it may be necessary to drive bored piles somewhere, to make expropriations and to evacuate the building, but we can say that there is no such situation at the moment. We are in safe hands. A very rigorous scientific study is being carried out. Immediate detections continue to be made with inclinometer wells in the landslide area. These studies also inform us about whether there will be any major disasters that may arise in the landslide area. On the one hand, as the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the General Directorate of IZSU, we continue to work together on the route drawn by our teachers, on the other. We will do what needs to be done in line with the final report," he said.

Buca, Karabağlar, Bornova, Karşıyaka ve Bayraklı The 2022 budgets of the municipalities were unanimously accepted.

Before the meeting, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council members held a minute's silence for 10 November.
