Diabetes, which affects 10 million people in Turkey and more than 400 million people in the world, stands out as a very serious public health problem. Nutritionist and Dietician Pınar Demirkaya, who made a statement on 14 November World Diabetes Day, shared four nutritional recommendations, stating that Type 2 Diabetes can be controlled with proper nutrition.

There are two types of diabetes, also known as Diabetes among the people. In the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes, insufficiently secreted insulin hormone is taken from the outside by injection. In Type 2 Diabetes, on the other hand, proper nutrition method and the right exercise become important because as the weight increases, insulin resistance also increases. In this direction, it is necessary to fight obesity. Nutritionist and Dietician Pınar Demirkaya, who made special statements on 14 November World Diabetes Day, drew attention to the importance of proper nutrition therapy and listed her four suggestions.

Type 2 Diabetes, which is experienced when cells become insensitive to insulin, which regulates blood sugar, can be prevented by 80 percent. Since it is essential to determine the most appropriate nutrition method, dried legumes such as dry beans, lentils, kidney beans and chickpeas are among the options that are beneficial to consume.

The fact that people with insulin resistance prefer low glycemic index foods that do not increase blood sugar is among the important points. While vegetable proteins, whose carbohydrate content is not very high, should be added to the nutrition plan in a controlled manner, oats, bulgur and quinoa can be preferred.

Fruits such as pears, kiwis, apples, cherries, dried apricots and peaches help the normal course of insulin resistance with vitamins A and C and minerals. Vegetables such as cauliflower, zucchini, eggplant, broccoli, radishes and tomatoes also contribute to the control of blood sugar level, as they are plant foods with a low glycemic index and rich in fiber content.
