Good news of Izmir Economy Congress from Soyer

Stating that chestnut, which has low input cost and high yield when grown in the right places, is within the scope of İzmir Agriculture support program. Tunç SoyerHe said that agricultural support programs operate in two layers as purchase and sales guarantee. Stating that the small producer will be able to export with the Terra Madre Anatolia fair to be held in 2022, President Soyer gave good news from Beydağ. Soyer said, “We will organize the Economics Congress again in İzmir on February 2023, 17, in the centennial year of the Economics Congress. We will have another very important work to accompany this: the National Sample Exhibition. “We are responsible for solving this problem”

Saying that Beydağ has an annual chestnut production capacity of around 5 thousand tons, but that it is adversely affected by the "chestnut branch cancer", Mayor Soyer said: “Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will stand by our producers in this regard, as it was before. I would like to remind you once again that we are determined to expand and support climate-compatible agricultural production in İzmir. Wrong agricultural policies and the resulting crop pattern dried up the Beydağ Dam yesterday. Today it is making our chestnut trees sick, and tomorrow it will force us to migrate from this land. However, drought is not a destiny in İzmir's geography. Nor is it the result of the climate crisis alone. Yes, the temperatures are increasing and the precipitation regime is changing, but this is not the main cause of the great drought in the Küçük Menderes Basin. The main reason for this drought is to support agricultural production based on silage maize, whose single root consumes 85 liters of water. If we are thinking about our children, we have to change this situation. If we were born in Beydağ and want to be satiated in Beydağ, we are obliged to solve this problem. I would like to point out one more time here. Whatever the drought-resistant product is… Pasture products, cereals, legumes, water-repellent fruits and landscape plants… Our İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, hand in hand with Beydağ Municipality, will be with our producers who want to switch to these products at every stage. Because this is not just a matter of agriculture, it is a matter of love of country and land, of homeland. Another agriculture is possible, that's what it means."

Yılmazlar: “We will introduce chestnuts in Beydağ”

Beydağ Mayor Feridun Yılmazlar said, “These fertile lands have become our homeland. Tunç SoyerThere is a saying that 's often repeats: 'Man should be satiated in the soil he was born in.' It is a very meaningful and appropriate word. In recent years, our people had to leave their land. We thought about how we can help our producer. We acted with the policy of our President, Another Agriculture is Possible. We organized this festival to promote our chestnut. Some of our chestnuts become candy in Bursa, and some go abroad. We considered it our duty to process and recognize this in Beydağ. We will make our producer smile.” Producer Seher Ovacık said, “Events like these are very important for small producers like us. We educate our children and we earn money,” he said.

Chestnut Flour Plant opened

Various events, folk dance performances, local product tastings, local producer promotions and openings were also held within the scope of the festival. Bünyamin Süren, who came third in the best chestnut competition, Umut Yılmaz, who came second and Mestan Yağcı, who came first, won chestnut saplings. Within the scope of the Chestnut Festival, the Chestnut Flour Plant was opened. President Soyer and his wife Neptün Soyer cut the cake made from chestnut flour and tasted the products.
