The award ceremony of the “Korkut Ata Turkish World Film Festival” organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism was held in Istanbul Atatürk Cultural Center.
Many famous names from the Turkish world and the culture and arts community attended the award ceremony of the festival, which was held for the first time in Istanbul and set out with the motto of “Wings Loaded with Mercy” this year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy expressed his happiness to host a distinguished group at the award evening of the "Korkut Ata Turkish World Film Festival".
“From 1896 to 2021, The Turkish World's Acquaintance with the White Screen Is Really That Old”
Stating that it has been 125 years since the people in Beyoğlu met with the device called cinematograph, Minister Ersoy said, “Language is easy, from 1896 to 2021, the acquaintance of the Turkish world with the big screen is really that old. Consider that even the Lumiere brothers, who are considered to be the inventors of cinema, could only perform their first cinematography show in Paris on December 28, 1895. Of course, it doesn't end with that first meeting in Istanbul. It continues with new screenings in different venues, the interest grows and this new invention and new art spreads rapidly when Izmir and Thessaloniki are mentioned.” he said.
Minister Ersoy stated that the first domestic cinema entrepreneurs, Cevat and Murat gentlemen, opened a hall called “National” and that the day of 14 November 1914, when Fuat Uzkınay filmed the destruction of the Ayastefanos Monument in Yeşilköy, was recorded as the day when the history of Turkish cinema began to be written. .
Pointing out that the first directors started to shoot their own films in 1918-1919, Minister Ersoy said that cinema started with Sedat Simavi, Ahmet Fehim Efendi, continued with names such as Muhsin Ertuğrul, Faruk Kenç, Turgut Demirağ, Hadi Hun, Cahide Sonku and gradually found its own personality and structure. He noted that this line, which has emerged as a sector, reached masters such as Lütfi Ömer Akad, Atıf Yılmaz, Ertem Eğilmez, Metin Erksan, Birsen Kaya, Bilge Olgaç, and today continues on its way with values such as Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Semih Kaplanoğlu, Derviş Zaim, Yeşim Ustaoğlu, Yavuz Turgul. .
Minister Ersoy pointed out that the situation in Ata's homeland is not much different from Anatolia, and said:
“We know that the first film screening was held in Tashkent in 1897. In 1914, which was a milestone for us, it was recorded that there were 25 movie theaters in Uzbekistan, 20 in Kazakhstan, 6 in Turkmenistan and 1 in Kyrgyzstan. Of course, in those years, cinema was a propaganda tool, first of the Tsarist and then of the Stalin era. But that too would come to an end, and then, original and pioneering names, who had mastered the scientific and intellectual principles of the art of cinema both aesthetically and technically, would begin to process the Turkish world cinema frame by frame, scene by scene. That's what happened. With the 1960s, the reflections of the people of those lands, who held tight to their identity, character and culture, began to fall on the silver screen one by one. National figures from Biruni to Nizami, from Ali Şir Nevai to Mahdum Kulu from the framework of names such as Tolomuş Okeyev, Hocakulu Narlıyev, Şöhret Abbasov, Tevfik İsmailov, Bulat Mansurov, Bulat Şemşiyev, Hürriyet İsmailova, Ardak Amirkulov, Darejan Umurbayev. moved during the period. Reminding that the "Turkish World Cinema Summit" was held within the scope of the festival, Minister Ersoy conveyed the information that at the summit, what can be done with its general framework, how to achieve better and more was discussed, and experiences and knowledge were shared by exchanging ideas.
Minister Ersoy stated that today, based on the same ideas and goals, the next step has been taken, “We signed a very comprehensive declaration together with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. From the establishment of the 'Turkish World Film Fund' to the 'Co-Production Agreement', we decided on the path to be followed and the steps to be taken. A serious will has been put forward for the Turkish world in the context of culture and art. I think we have come to an important turning point. Hopefully, we will implement the decisions taken quickly and in time, we will reach the production and box office figures we deserve in the cinema industry, quality productions that we set the bar for ourselves, and international recognition together.” he said.
Minister Ersoy congratulated the award winners by stating that 42 productions met with the audience at the Korkut Ata Turkish World Film Festival, and 17 works competing in the categories of feature-length fiction and documentary took place.
Pointing out that Bursa was declared the “38 Cultural Capital of the Turkic World” at the 2022th Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of TURKSOY, Minister Ersoy said, “We, hopefully, will organize the second 'Korkut Ata Turkic World Film Festival' in Bursa next year. ” said.
Expressing his satisfaction that the countries of the Turkic world have embraced this festival, Minister Ersoy added that the festival is planned to be hosted by Azerbaijan Shusha in 2023, Kazakhstan in 2024, Uzbekistan in 2025 and Kyrgyzstan in 2026.

The "Turkish World Contribution Awards" of the festival, which was held under the umbrella of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with the cooperation of the International Cinema Association, Turkic Council, TÜRKSOY, TRT, Istanbul University, as well as many institutions and organizations, was presented to Arzu Aliyeva on behalf of Baku Media Center by Minister Ersoy. .

Minister Ersoy pointed out that they can hold the Korkut Ata Turkish World Film Festival in Kazakhstan in 2024 and in Uzbekistan in 2025, adding, “Again, one of the most important points with this protocol is the transfer of knowledge and experience to the relevant countries at the level of experts and academics. In this context, the necessary assignments will be made with the relevant countries within the scope of this protocol and we will also organize mutual film weeks. It will not be limited to festivals only. As you can see, the protocol paves the way for both financial solutions and information transfer of productions, as well as communication and co-productions with festival and cultural weeks to be organized jointly.
