Izmir Metropolitan Municipality developed the "I'm at Stop" application for the visually impaired. With the application that will serve over ESHOT Mobile, visually impaired passengers with İzmirim Card for Disabled will send a notification to the bus they want to board, and the bus driver will know at which stop the disabled passenger is waiting. Thanks to the audible warning, the visually impaired will learn that their bus has come to the stop without needing help.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality ESHOT General Directorate has developed software that will facilitate transportation for the visually impaired. The “I'm at a Stop” application, which will enable visually impaired passengers with İzmirimim Cards to board buses without assistance from anyone, was put into service via ESHOT Mobile.

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, said that all units of the municipality have carried out very important works in line with the goal of 100 percent accessible city for all segments of the society. Reminding that İzmir Metropolitan Municipality was deemed worthy of the second prize in the category of Public Institutions and Organizations in the Turkey 2020 Accessibility Awards organization as an indication of this, Mayor Soyer said, “As a requirement of our Disability Friendly Municipality title, we overcome obstacles in public transportation one by one. This software, prepared for our visually impaired citizens, is a first in Turkey in terms of its technological infrastructure and capacity. I care a lot about them being able to travel freely without anyone's help. Their satisfaction will be our happiness.”

How will the application work?

The Duraktayim service, which has been used and developed by the determined pilot group for about six months, will operate as follows:
Visually impaired passengers with the disabled Izmirim Card will use the 'I'm at the station' tab in the ESHOT Mobile application installed on their smartphones. He will inform the line number of the bus he wants to board and the stop he will get on. The notification will appear instantly on the information screen of the first bus approaching the stop. Thus, ESHOT drivers will know at which stop the visually impaired passengers are waiting. The system will continuously inform both the driver and the waiting visually impaired passenger that the vehicle is approaching the stop. When the bus enters the stop, an audible warning will be made both from the system and from the loudspeaker mounted on the outside of the vehicles. The system will also notify the visually impaired passenger at the stop they want to get off at.
