While making a presentation on the Presidency's 2022 budget at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey's Planning and Budget Committee, Vice President Fuat Oktay shared important information about the ongoing projects related to the defense industry.

Oktay made some statements about the New Type Submarine Project in his statement. Vice President Fuat Oktay stated that the second submarine built within the scope of the New Type Submarine Project will be towed to the pool in 2. Within the scope of the project, which continues to be built by the Ministry of National Defense Gölcük Shipyard, studies of 2022 Type-6 class submarines with an air-independent propulsion system are carried out. The submarines to be built within the scope of the New Type Submarine Project are based on Germany's Type-214 submarines in design. The submarines to be built within this scope will be named TCG Piri Reis, TCG Hızır Reis, TCG Murat Reis, TCG Aydın Reis, TCG Seydiali Reis and TCG Selman Reis.

In 2021, it was announced in January 1 that Piri Reis, the first submarine built within the scope of the aforementioned project, would be launched and the second submarine, Hızır Reis, would be pulled into the pool. The aforementioned statement was included in the Turkish Defense Industry 2 Targets video published by the Presidency of Defense Industries.

Reis Class Submarine Project (Type-214 TN)

Submarines referred to as Type-214TN (Turkish Navy) in the international literature were first named Djerba Class. After the revision process, they started to be called the Reis Class, which is today's name. It is aimed to construct and supply 6 New Type submarines with air-independent propulsion system (AIP) at Gölcük Shipyard Command with maximum domestic contribution. The Reis class submarine supply project was initiated with the decision of the Defense Industry Executive Committee (SSİK) dated June 2005.

The first submarine of its class, TCG Piri Reis (S-330), was lowered into the pool with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on 22 December 2019. In the next stage, the equipment activities of the TCG Piri Reis submarine will continue in the dock and the submarine will enter the service of the Naval Forces Command in 2022 after the Factory Acceptance (FAT), Port Acceptance (HAT) and Sea Acceptance (SAT) Tests, respectively. Once TCG Piri Reis is fully operational, the focus will be on TCG Hızır Reis' submarine.

Delivery of each submarine; 42 moon build and equipIt will take 9 months, 11 months for the Port Acceptance Test (HAT) and 62 months for the Sea Acceptance Test (SAT). Others will be delivered every 12 months. The first submarine will be completed in 2022, and the other 5 in 12-month phases in 2027. Construction and detail design activities are carried out simultaneously.
