President Soyer's Commitment to Net Zero Carbon Target in 2050

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality announced that it has participated in the "Cities Compete to Zero" program, which aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality announced that it has participated in the "Cities Race to Zero" program, which aims at net zero carbon emissions until 2050, within the scope of combating the climate crisis, with the decision of the Assembly. After the 'Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan' and the 'Izmir Green City Action Plan' prepared for Izmir for the first time in Turkey, we also published our 'Life in Harmony with Nature Strategy'. We have drawn the road map of İzmir until 2030 and started 25 innovative projects in this direction. Again, by signing the Convention of Presidents for Climate and Energy, we committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within our jurisdiction by at least 2030 percent by 40. Now, we have taken this target to the next level and set a net zero carbon emission target for 2050. We are working hard to protect the right to life of all living things in our city and in the world.”

Climate targets will be established

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will compete for net zero carbon emissions throughout the city on the "Cities Compete to Zero" platform. With the undertaking of the “Cities Compete to Zero” program, the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality accepted the decisions that coincide with the 1,5 degrees Celsius target of the Paris Agreement. A reduction in the city's share is planned for a 2030 percent global reduction in carbon emissions by 50, in line with global efforts. Climate targets will be established for net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Before the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), such as “Creating a More Inclusive Society”, “Creating Green and Healthy Streets”, “Developing Zero Carbon Buildings” and “Moving towards Zero Waste” stated in the “Cities Compete to Zero Program” will undertake at least one climate action out of the actions in the titles.
