TotalEnergies and Daimler Truck AG have signed an agreement on their joint commitment to decarbonize road transport in the European Union. The partners will collaborate in the development of ecosystems for hydrogen-powered haul trucks with the goal of demonstrating the effectiveness of clean hydrogen-powered road transport and playing a leading role in the implementation of hydrogen infrastructure in transport.
The scope of cooperation includes, among others, hydrogen supply and logistics, distribution of hydrogen to service stations, development of hydrogen fuel trucks, and customer base formation.
TotalEnergies aims to operate, directly or indirectly, around 2030 hydrogen fueling stations in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France by 150. As part of the collaboration, Daimler Truck AG will also supply hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks to customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France by 2025. The truck manufacturer will support its customers to offer easy handling, operability and a competitive range.

For this reason, establishing a network of hydrogen-based truck stations in Europe in the field of mobility is one of the main challenges we intend to address. We are proud to partner with such a motivated actor as Daimler Truck AG to develop CO2-neutral trucking with an integrated approach.”
Karin Rådström, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Member of the Board of Directors of Daimler Truck AG, also made the following statement: “We are fully committed to the Paris Climate Agreement and want to actively contribute to the decarbonisation of road transport in the European Union. Regarding the long haul segment, we believe that in the future, hydrogen-based fuel cell trucks, as well as fully battery-powered trucks, will enable CO2 neutral transport. To this end, we want to establish a Europe-wide hydrogen ecosystem, together with strong partners such as TotalEnergies. I am confident that this collaboration will play a key role in our intense activities on the road to hydrogen-based trucking.”
The two companies want to explore together ways to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in hydrogen-based truck operations, in line with their joint approach of working with authorities on the regulatory framework in the European Union to develop these projects and make hydrogen-based transport a viable option.
Daimler Truck AG and TotalEnergies, members of the H2Accelerate consortium, are committed to working with the consortium, which will play a key role in supporting the implementation of hydrogen-based trucking in Europe over the next decade.
