A total of 10,5 kilograms of methamphetamine-type drugs, which were hidden in women's slippers and looked like filling material, were seized during the operations initiated at Istanbul Airport by the Ministry of Commerce Customs Enforcement teams and then continued in the city.
In the risk analysis conducted by the Istanbul Airport Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate, a foreign national passenger coming to Turkey from Iran was considered risky. When the plane that brought the said passenger to the airport landed by being tracked through information systems, action was taken for the operation.
The luggage with the suspect passenger was sent to the x-ray device. At first glance, no criminal element was found in the baggage that was opened and searched upon the detection of suspicious density in the scan made here. In the search made with narcotic detector dogs, it was observed that the detector dogs reacted to the women's slippers in the suitcases. Thereupon, white colored, thick molded plates that looked like filling material were found inside the slippers that were separated from the connection points.
In the analysis of the sample taken from the said plates, it was determined that it was a methamphetamine type drug. As a result of the successful operation, 6,5 kilograms of drugs were seized.
The investigation was deepened in order to identify the domestic buyers of the drug. The buyers were caught in the operation carried out at the addresses determined in the city. In the search carried out in the car used by the buyers in question, another 4 kilograms of drugs hidden in the slippers were seized by a similar method.
As a result of two operations related to each other, a total of 10,5 kilograms of methamphetamine type drugs were seized; Six people who tried to smuggle drugs into Turkey using the method revealed by the successful analysis and careful work of the Customs Enforcement teams were detained.
