Insufficiency of heart valves can occur due to different reasons. The problem of insufficiency that may occur in the tricuspid valve, which is one of the heart valves, can now be treated without surgery with interventional methods in the light of developments in medical technology. The "Tricuspid clip" (Triklip) procedure, also known as the latching method, is performed by entering through the groin with the angiography method, without the need to open the chest. In this way, patients can regain their health in a comfortable way. Especially patients for whom the use of medication is not sufficient benefit greatly from this interventional method. Memorial Ankara Hospital Cardiology Department Head Prof. Dr. Ali Oto gave information about the Tricuspid clip method.

Intervention may be required for tricuspid valve regurgitation

Problems such as stenosis and insufficiency may occur in the tricuspid valve, which is located between the right atrium of the heart and the right ventricle and prevents blood from escaping to the right atrium. In tricuspid valve insufficiency, the normal condition of the patient can be maintained for a while with drug therapy; however, if the drugs are not sufficient after a point, the valve should be intervened in order to eliminate or minimize the tricuspid valve insufficiency. Tricuspid valve insufficiency, which has been treated surgically for many years, can now be treated non-surgically and in an interventional way with the latching (Clip) method developed with technological advances.

Interventional solutions in tricuspid valve regurgitation

Tricuspid valve insufficiency can be treated non-surgically with interventional methods with "Tricuspid clip", also known as "Tricuspid valve latch" or "Triklip", which has been started to be made in the last 1-2 years. This method, which is valid for patients of all ages; It is applied in cases where there is no stenosis in the tricuspid valve, the lung pressure is not very high, and the patients do not respond to drug therapy due to significant tricuspid valve insufficiency.

No incision is made in the tricuspid clip treatment.

In the tricuspid clip procedure, there is no incision or opening of the chest as in open surgery. This procedure is performed by simply entering the vein in the groin, using the cardiac ultrasound system (transesophageal echocardiography) and radiological imaging system, which is placed in the esophagus and allows four-dimensional examination. After the procedure, which takes about an hour, the patient can be sent home the next day.

It should not be too late for the procedure

Insufficiency of the tricuspid valve causes fullness in the neck veins, liver enlargement and swelling in the legs. In case of being late, the event becomes more difficult to reverse, the risk of the transactions to be made increases and the probability of success decreases. For this reason, it is also important not to be too late for the Tricuspid clip procedure. After this procedure, which has a low risk, the patient can return to his normal life in a few days if there is no other important health problem. However, patients should not neglect their follow-up, and their first controls should be done 1-2 weeks after the procedure. In addition, the 3rd and 6th month controls should not be forgotten.

The advantages of the tricuspid clip procedure provide a comfortable life for the patient.

The advantages of the tricuspid clip procedure are:

  • With the tricuspid clip procedure, patients with a high surgical risk or who do not have a chance for surgery have a chance to regain their health by reducing valve insufficiency and increasing cardiac output.
  • It is performed by entering through the groin without opening the chest, without making any incisions. Thus, the integrity of the chest wall is preserved.
  • Patients stay in the hospital for a very short time and can quickly return to their daily lives.
  • The patient does not bleed
  • There is no pain during and after the procedure.
