TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team successfully completed the Rally Spain. After this race, Toyota entered the final race of the WRC calendar as the leader of the Drivers and Constructors Championship.
In Spain, Elfyn Evans finished the race in second place, ensuring the team's place on the podium. Sébastien Ogier, one of the other drivers competing in the Yaris WRC, was fourth, while young driver Kalle Rovanperä finished fifth in the general classification.
Evans and his co-driver, Scott Martin, led the race after winning the first three stages on Friday and held the top spot over the weekend. Ogier, on the other hand, struggled for the podium position throughout the rally and continued to lead the Drivers' Championship by 17 points with the fourth place achieved. Aiming to maintain the point gap in Italy, Ogier will go to the final race to win his eighth World Championship.
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is one step closer to the championship with the extra points Evans and Ogier brought in the Power Stage, as well as being in the top five in the WRC category. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing gained a significant advantage 47 points ahead of its closest competitor in the Constructors' Championship.
TGR WRC Challenge Program driver Takamoto Katsuta also continued his learning process in Spain. Katsuta, who started the race again on Saturday morning, took his place among the drivers who managed to reach the finish.
Evaluating the results after Rally Spain, team captain Jari-Matti Latvala stated that it was important for all three cars to reach the finish in the top five without any problems and said, “It was critical for Elfyn Evans to get the second place in the Drivers' Championship. The Constructors' Championship was not concluded in Spain either, and our goal at Monza will be to win both championships," he said.
Italy's famous Monza racetrack will host the last race of the World Rally Championship between 19-21 November. This year's Rally Monza will be held with more stages, along with mountainous asphalt roads near Bergamo.
