Güler Sabancı: We train successful students for the art world
Stating that they started the preparations for the SUSAM Building before the pandemic, Sabancı University Founding Board of Trustees Chair Güler Sabancı said, “It is an exciting day for me. I am eternally grateful to those who contributed. We always wanted the workshops of our Visual Art and Visual Communication Design Program at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences to be in a separate place of their own. In the first years of Sabancı University, we seemed to be swimming in uncharted waters with such a different program, but in the end, our program was very successful thanks to the students of this program, who are now artists, and the faculty members who trained them. As a good example, the exhibition of artists who passed through here continues at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum these days. I would like to thank our faculty members who train successful students in the art world, and I think that our art workshops will accomplish very successful works.”
Yusuf Leblebici: We want it to set an example for other universities
Expressing that they have a program that will set an example for other universities, Sabancı University President Yusuf Leblebici said, “The opening of this building is a very good event for us. Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design is one of our most valuable and unique programs. It is a program that is not available in other universities and we are really proud of its results. In the next stages, we want the Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Program to increase in number and set an example for other universities.”
Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Meltem Müftüler-Baç stated that the SUSAM building has been serving for about 1 year; “We actually opened SESAME last year. Our students and teachers have been working actively for 1 year. But due to the pandemic, we could not make the official opening. We are very happy to be able to make the official opening today by being here together.”
