The 6th Transportation and Communications Council, which was held at Istanbul Atatürk Airport on October 7-8-12, brought together the representatives of the transportation and communication sector around the world. While many sessions were held at the Council, which attracted 20 thousand participants, the executives of the railway sector came together with the 'Round Table' meeting held on October 8, 2021. General Managers of TCDD Tasimacilik, TCDD, TÜRASAŞ and AYGM attended the meeting, where the position of railways in world trade, its advantage over other transportation vehicles, and railway investments were discussed.

Speaking at the 'Round Table' meeting, TCDD Transportation General Manager Hasan Pezük touched upon many topics such as railways and the environment, digitalization, logistics and safety. Pezük, who always prioritizes safety in railway transportation: “Safe work is our most important priority. For this purpose, there are safety and security projects in an important part of our work.” He talked about the work carried out on safety. Pezük: “Our primary and most important goal in the institution is to develop the Corporate Safety Culture and to raise awareness about safe working. For this reason, we declared this year the 'Year of Safety' and started a total security mobilization. By creating Safety Trains with TCDD, we travel the regions only for this purpose. Apart from this, we have work programs aiming at instilling a safety culture in all personnel with risk analysis processes, inspection activities, camera recording system installation on locomotives and reward and punishment practices.” said.
“We Connect Ports, OIZs and Logistics Centers with Junction Lines”
Emphasizing that the biggest added value creation point of railways is logistics, Pezük said: “As TCDD Tasimacilik, we are working on what we can do both in our country and internationally in order to get a high share of global trade and logistics.” said. Hasan Pezük, General Manager of TCDD Transportation, continued his words as follows: “We want to increase block train operations by connecting ports, Organized Industrial Zones and logistics centers with junction lines. The number of 12 logistics centers currently serving will reach 26. Operational models related to the correct and efficient use of logistics centers are being worked on in coordination with our Ministry. With the BTK line opened in 2017, a great acceleration in international transportation has been achieved, while our transportation to Iran and Europe, which has grown over time, also supports important pillars of our goal of reaching the whole world. With the uninterrupted freight transportation model we realized with Marmaray, Project of the Century, we offered both time and cost savings to our business partners.”

Emphasizing that climate change due to global warming is one of the most important problems awaiting our world in the future, Pezuk stated that railways are the most appropriate means of transportation for clean environment targets. Pezük: “Leaving a livable world to future generations depends on the steps we will take on environmental issues today. According to 2020 data, 16,2% of total greenhouse gas emissions originate from transportation and railways are the most environmentally friendly transportation mode when compared to other transportation modes (air, sea, road). Because an electric train emits 7 times less emissions than an airplane and 5 times less than a car.” said.
Emphasizing once again that railways are the least damaging means of transportation in the fields of electrification projects, renewable energy, zero waste projects and noise impact, Pezük stated that railways will continue to make a difference in the transportation sector with 'Applications for Green Transport'.
