Protecting the historical values, the Metropolitan Municipality started to apply the new Ankara Font, chosen by the capital, to street and street signs and building numbers. While the new signboards and building numbers selected by the people of Başkent are written in a new font, the teams of the Numbering Department of the Department of Science, with an economy-oriented approach, recycle the signs that have completed their economic life.

The Metropolitan Municipality took action to protect the unique values ​​of the Capital and to remove the pollution created by the advertising signs and totems.

A survey was conducted for three projects selected as a result of the "National Design Competition for Street and Street Signs, Building Door Numbers, Architectural Promotion Signs and Original Font" organized by the Police Department and Ankara City Council.

The new Ankara Font, which has a red-weighted white writing and black stripe design, selected as a result of the voting made by the citizens of Başkent Mobile, has started to be applied on street and street signs and building numbers.

RECYCLING COSTS HALF THE COST

In line with the concept of saving, the teams of the Department of Science and Technology Numbering Department reduce the cost by half by recycling the old plates and building numbers that have completed their economic life for the new Ankara Font design.

While the unit cost of the signs that have completed their economic life is 80 TL, the teams of the Numbering Branch Office, which cost the cost of the new signboards 40-50 TL thanks to the recycled signs in the workshop, print an average of 500 signboards per day.

NEW ANKARA FONT IMPLEMENTATION STARTED ON THE ULUS-ATAKULE ROUTE IN THE FIRST STAGE

While the assembly process of the 172 busiest street and street signs and building number plates of Ankara, which was determined between Ulus and Atakule at the first stage, was started, it is aimed to place the plates prepared with the UV Printing Machine in the own workshop of the Department of Science Affairs within 2 months.

Inscriptions of Anıtkabir and Atatürk's Address to the Youth, Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Having seen the Ankara Font, inspired by the font used by Emin Barın and Painter-Hattat Etem Çalışkan, for the first time on the new signboards and building numbers, the residents of Başkent expressed their appreciation with these words:

– Gizem Chenni: "I really like. I had already participated in the voting and chose these signs. Thank you very much for this service.”

-Khaki Iron: “I really like the colors. Because I thought that our people had a lot of trouble with address and number. So it was very nice.”
