Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its membership in the European Healthy Cities Network, which was initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO) with the aim of creating healthy cities. In the new 5-year term, the Metropolitan Municipality will develop projects and work with the aim of "increasing health and welfare for all and reducing health inequalities".

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which completed the membership conditions for the period covering the years 1987-5, of the network, which started in 2019 and is renewed every 2025 years, became one of the 7 municipalities accepted from Turkey. The membership certificate for the network work was received at a ceremony held at the Union of Municipalities of Turkey building in Ankara on October 7th.

Membership renewed for the third time

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality was accepted as a member in the 5th term (2009-2013) of the European Healthy Cities Network, which develops in five-year terms, and started to work as one of the first selected cities in Europe, and took its place in the membership in the period between 2014-2018.

Studies will continue on 6 main themes.

It will develop and continue to work on 6 main themes: "Improving health and well-being for all and reducing health inequalities", "Leading by setting an example at the national, regional and global level" and "supporting the implementation of WHO's strategic priorities". Within the six main themes identified, “Investing in the people that make up our cities”, “Designing urban places that improve health and well-being”, “Building greater participation and partnerships for health and well-being”, “Improving social welfare and access to common goods and services”, The topics covered were “Promoting peace and security through inclusive societies” and “Protecting our planet from degradation by using sustainable consumption and production practices”.
