What is Prostate Inflammation?

The prostate is an important organ of the reproductive system, located under the bladder, in front of the rectum. Prostatitis (prostate inflammation) is inflammation of the prostate gland. It can be painful and uncomfortable, but there is a cure. While treatment is not required in one type of prostate inflammation, in other types, it is aimed to relieve the inflammation with drug treatment.

Prostatitis, in its simplest definition, is inflammation of the prostate gland. It is the most common reproductive system disease in men under the age of 50. According to studies, prostatitis affects 10-14% of men of all ages and ethnicities, and more than 50% of men experience an attack of prostatitis at some point in their lives.

How is Prostate Inflammation Diagnosed?

Since the enlarged prostate makes the urine flow difficult, it causes some complaints such as difficulty in urination, inability to urinate completely, frequent urination at night, inability to urinate and relax, the feeling of urinating again, difficulty in starting to urinate, intermittent urination and urinary incontinence. Sometimes, bleeding in the urine, frequent urinary tract infections, complete obstruction, formation of stones in the bladder, and kidney function if neglected can lead to life-threatening conditions. Prostate enlargement is a condition that seriously reduces the comfort of life.

Prostate Inflammation Symptoms in Men

If we need to list the symptoms of prostate cancer in general, we can specify as follows:

1- Difficulty urinating or ejaculating.

2- Intermittent and weak discharge while urinating

3- A feeling that the bladder is full.

4- The need to urinate more often, especially at night

5- Urine leakage

6- Blood in the urine.

The most common complaints in prostate inflammation are burning in urination, feeling that the urine is not fully emptied, a feeling of fullness in the crotch and pain in the ovaries. Sometimes there may be interruption in urination, frequent urination, burning in semen, fever, urinary obstruction and pain in the groin. Premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction and sexual reluctance can be seen.

What are the Symptoms of Prostate Inflammation?

In patients with acute bacterial prostatitis:

Symptoms usually appear suddenly and are very severe.

Patients usually present to the emergency room.

The most obvious symptoms are;

  • High fever, chills
  • Severe burning sensation when urinating
  • Feeling of not fully emptying the bladder
  • In patients with chronic bacterial prostatitis:
  • Symptoms are similar to acute bacterial prostatitis; but no high fever.
  • The most obvious symptoms are;
  • burning sensation while urinating
  • the need to urinate frequently
  • The need to urinate at night
  • Pain in the perineum (the area between the testicles and anus), testicles (ovaries), bladder, lumbar region and around the anus
