In Japan, the Maglev train tunnel under construction collapsed in Nakatsugawa, Gifu province. One of the two workers who were seriously injured in the incident died in the hospital where he was taken. Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai) company reported that 5 workers were working inside the tunnel at the time of the accident.

JR Tokai explained that the collapse occurred during the inspection after the dynamite work, about 70 meters from the tunnel entrance. Stating that there was a fatal accident on the maglev line for the first time, the company expressed its condolences to the family and relatives of the worker who lost his life.

NHK stated that the 600-meter tunnel under construction was made for the emergency exit of the 4,4-kilometer main tunnel, whose construction has not started yet.

Security forces launched an investigation into the accident.
