Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that they started the Beyoğlu Culture Road Festival as of yesterday evening and said that this event will be held every year in autumn and spring.

Minister Ersoy attended the opening of the exhibitions at Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM), Gezi Park, Taksim Maksim Sofitel Hotel, Taksim Mosque and Galataport as part of the Beyoğlu Cultural Road Festival.

Commenting on the press after the openings, Ersoy stated that with the reopening of AKM, the last link on the Beyoğlu Culture Road route has been completed.

Minister Ersoy emphasized that they started the Beyoğlu Culture Road Festival together with Sinan's opera as of yesterday evening and said, “This year is the first one. It will now happen every fall and spring. Currently, hundreds of events are held at 17 different locations with the participation of more than 1000 artists during this 64-day period.” said.

Explaining that he had the chance to visit certain spots in the Beyoğlu Cultural Road Festival with his wife by taking advantage of the opportunity to be in Istanbul, Ersoy continued his words as follows:

“Currently, we are at the Monet&Friends exhibition. This is an international exhibition. There are a few more international events like this one during this festival. Tomorrow evening, the London Philharmonic Orchestra will play at AKM. A few days later, the legendary name of jazz, Chris Botti will take the stage at AKM. With such events, we will increase our festival every year and make it an international brand. Hopefully, we will make one of the most branded festivals in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, and then in Turkey and the world.”

Giving information about the Monet&Friends Digital Exhibition, Ersoy said that it was a work in which the works of the most important painters of the period were presented digitally between 1860 and 1890 and included 15 artists.

Emphasizing that they will hold a much larger festival in the spring, Ersoy said:

“We will be able to attract many visitors from the world to our region. But let me tell you this: Beyoğlu Culture Road route is not limited to festivals. There is an app to navigate the route. You are downloading this application or you can visit 'beyoglukulturyolu.com' whenever you have the opportunity.

Hopefully, we will become a very good brand in culture and art as Turkey. This year it means much more. After a long pandemic period, we wanted to give a message to the world. The institutions that were most affected by the pandemic were cultural and artistic events. We also took the opportunity to give such a message to the world from Beyoğlu, Turkey, that normalization has started here as well. Hopefully, we will make it an international brand as soon as possible.”

Minister Ersoy was accompanied by Deputy Ministers of Culture and Tourism Özgül Özkan Yavuz and Ahmet Misbah Demircan, Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Coşkun Yılmaz and Beyoğlu Mayor Haydar Ali Yıldız.
