Konya's Smart City Strategy to Be Prepared in Collaboration with Sabancı University and ASELSAN

Sabancı University and ASELSAN collaborated to work on the Konya Metropolitan Municipality's roadmap to include smart city strategies until 2030.

Sabancı University and ASELSAN will prepare the road map of Konya Metropolitan Municipality that will include smart city strategies until 2030, breaking new ground in Turkey.

Sabancı University Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Leblebici made a statement on the subject, “We are breaking new ground with Konya Metropolitan Municipality and ASELSAN. It is of great importance that the offered smart city solutions are implemented in cooperation with local governments, taking into account the demographic, geographical and sociological characteristics of the city. For this reason, we are proud to contribute to the creation of a strategy and roadmap that will make the smart city applications of our country's municipalities special to the city, under the leadership of ASELSAN.

Dr. Leblebici continued his statement as follows: “We hope that this first project, in which local solutions in the field of smart cities will be put at the disposal of the municipality, will set an example for other municipalities as well. As Sabancı University, we aim to have a say in this field, which requires interdisciplinary organization, with our knowledge, infrastructure and academic abilities, and to be the first research university that comes to mind when Smart Cities are mentioned.”

Smart city systems will be a priority for municipalities

Aselsan, which is in the top 50 of the world's most important defense companies, has 40 years of experience in the defense industry, engineering, technology, design, infrastructure and above all, with its trained human resources, in civilian areas that will contribute to Turkey's technological and economic independence. produces solutions. ASELSAN, which also works in the field of smart cities, operates in the fields of smart transportation systems, smart energy and smart city management systems and continues its cooperation with different municipalities.

The concept of smart cities, which includes applications such as smart transportation, smart energy, and digital solutions for more modern and livable cities, has recently attracted great attention in Turkey as well as all over the world. Cities, where the residents are also involved in the decision mechanisms, sustainability is ensured with the established financial model, and the negative effects on the environment are minimized, will be the priority areas for municipalities in the coming period.

Within the scope of the project, ASELSAN and Sabancı University will work together with the aim of developing domestic and national solutions by combining their knowledge and skills. Among the activities to be carried out jointly, there are new generation smart city solution proposals such as smart transportation, smart energy, social programs supported by digital technologies, smart city solutions including user participation, and local solutions specific to Konya.
