The evaluation process of the jury has started for the first stage of the 100th Anniversary Anthem Poetry and Composition Competition organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which is preparing to leave an unforgettable gift on the 100th anniversary of the Republic. In the competition, which applied with a total of 497 poems, the five works with the highest votes will be announced on October 29, 2021.

The evaluation process of the jury has started in the “100th Anniversary Anthem Poetry and Composition Competition” organized by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality to draw attention to the achievements of the Republic.

At the jury meeting held at Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center, the advisory members of the Selection Committee of the competition, Former Minister of Culture, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Chairman of the Assembly Prof. Dr. Suat Çağlayan, President of İzmir National Library Association and İzmir Urban Culture and Development Platform President Ulvi Puğ, Founder of Ankapella Choir Choir and Orchestra Conductor Assoc. Dr. Ahter Destan, Maltepe University Conservatory Lecturer and Composer Turgay Erdener, Yaşar University Faculty of Art and Design Head of Music Department and Composer Prof. Dr. Mehmet Can Özer, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay, Ege University Retired Lecturer, composer and ethnomusicologist Prof. Dr. Ahmet Walker, Director of Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center and violinist Emel Sevil Özer.

497 poetry submissions

The application process for the poetry competition, which is the first stage of the two-stage competition, was completed on 1 October. Forty out of 497 applications were excluded from the evaluation as they did not comply with the competition specifications. Jury members will evaluate and score 457 works under three main headings: suitability for purpose, technique and aesthetics. The five highest-voted works will be announced on October 29, 2021.

The final concert of the composition competition is on October 29, 2022.

After the completion of the first stage of the competition, the composition competition will begin. Applications can be made until September 1, 2022. The lyrics of the five works that were deemed worthy of an award in the poetry category can be used, and the composers will also be able to choose other lyrics. A total of 10 works will be selected and will go to the final. On October 29, 2022, there is the final concert, the announcement of the winner and the award ceremony.

Prize of 100 thousand TL for the first place

The winner of the composition category will be awarded a prize of 100 thousand TL. If one of the poems deemed worthy of an award is used in the first composition, this work will be considered the first in the poetry category and a prize of 100 thousand lira will be presented to its poet. The remaining nine compositions will receive an honorable mention of 10 thousand liras.

If none of the poems selected in the poetry category were used in the winning composition, the poet of the five poems will be presented with a 10 thousand lira honorable mention if one of the poems has been used in the winning composition.
