The more the body comes into contact with allergens, the more severe the problems. Stating that there has been a significant increase in allergic diseases as a result of global warming in recent years, Acıbadem International Hospital Chest Diseases Specialist Dr. Nur Kaşkır Öztürk said, “Global warming, one of the most important problems threatening our world, concerns allergic patients even more. With the effect of global warming, autumn months will be referred to as allergy season more and more day by day. It should be investigated whether there is an allergy at the root of the unknown cause of fatigue and body aches. Chest Diseases Specialist Dr. Nur Kaşkır Öztürk talked about 10 ways to avoid allergies and made important warnings and suggestions.

It also causes loss of smell!

Allergy is defined as an overreaction of the immune system to a food or foreign substances such as pollen, mites, cat hair. Red, itchy eyes, itching in the nose, congestion, discharge and sneezing, cough, feeling of tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, itching, swelling and rashes on the body stand out as signs of allergy. Noting that allergies also cause loss of smell, Dr. Nur Kaşkır Öztürk, the most important difference that distinguishes this situation from the symptoms of Covid-19, “The loss of smell in Covid-19 is sudden. The loss of smell in allergic diseases increases gradually. In addition, there is never a high fever in allergic nasal symptoms,” he says.

Weed pollen season has begun

Stating that the pollen that becomes evident in autumn belongs to weeds, Dr. Nur Kaşkır Öztürk states that after the humidity changes in the air, the amount of mold fungi and mites change, and the weed pollen season begins. Stating that after allergen contact, a chemical substance called histamine is secreted from the respiratory tract from the nose, throat and bronchi, which are the lower respiratory tracts, and that histamine causes reactions in allergic people. Nur Kaşkır Öztürk said, “The more a person encounters the allergen to which his body reacts, the more problems he experiences. “Since chemicals such as histamine can cause feelings of fatigue as well as widespread body aches, it is appropriate to question allergies in cases of unidentified fatigue and body aches.”

Grapegrass threat is spreading!

Noting that ragweed is one of the leading weed pollens that cause serious allergic attacks in autumn, grapegrass has become a problem by becoming widespread in our country in the last 10 years. Nur Kaşkır Öztürk says: “According to the Horizon 2020 report of the European Union Research and Renewal Program, warm weather in autumn (global warming) prolongs the amount of grapegrass in the atmosphere and its spreading time. In this way, people who were allergic to it will be as if they have encountered a new and powerful enemy when they encounter grape grass. This can increase their sensitivity to very strong allergens and thus their illness. The seeds and pollen of this herb live for decades. Since its spread is very fast, the fight against grape grass is also very difficult. Therefore, global warming, which is one of the most important problems threatening our world, has a great importance for allergic patients. With the effect of global warming, autumn months will be more and more referred to as allergy season.
