Audi is developing a new virtual reality (VR) application that backseat passengers can use while traveling: holoride
Thanks to the application developed by Audi, passengers will be able to have a more enjoyable journey thanks to VR glasses in many activities from movies to games to meeting presentations. The monitored virtual content will adapt to the driving movements of the car in real time.
Audi offers innovative VR or XR (augmented reality) technology that makes car journeys a multi-modal experience.
On the platform, called Holoride, backseat passengers use a VR app where they can experience movies, video games and interactive content more realistically. Thanks to the application, which has a new technology that adapts to the driving movements of the vehicle in real time, for example, the passenger watching a spaceship with VR glasses during the vehicle's cornering can see that the spaceship in the imaginary world is turning in the same direction, and that the spaceship accelerates with the acceleration of the vehicle.
A new media: holoride
Holoride, a platform that enables content developers to create augmented reality formats, creates new media with its specially developed software kit. The new work for the Unity game engine, called the Elastic Software Development Kit (SDK), gives developers access to tools to create game experiences and entertainment formats. This new media category, which provides a new approach to content creation, can be used in many different areas from space adventures to blockbuster movies and historical city tours.
Virtual trip in Salzburg
Audi first used the new entertainment format at the Salzburg Festival. In the back seat of Audi e-tron, the festival participants had the opportunity to take a virtual tour of the city organized by the festival and watch historical scenes from the past of the festival.
First unveiled at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, holoride has also developed, in collaboration with Disney, an in-vehicle, action-packed VR game based on the character Rocket Raccoon from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
