Equipment production for Turkey's first nuclear power plant Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) continues. Finally, an operation to open the raw pipe for the construction of the reactor base of Unit 3 of the power plant was carried out at the Volgodonsk branch of AEM -Technology, which is part of the engineering department of the Russian State Atomic Energy Agency Rosatom.

The operation, which is a technologically complex operation, was carried out in various stages in the heat press workshop. The tubular forged steel, weighing over 80 tons and having a diameter of 2 meters, was preheated in the furnace at a maximum of 7 degrees for approximately 1100 hours, and then sent to the pressing machine with the help of a crane. The blank was then opened using two dies. The main condition in the process in the press machine with a power of 10 thousand tons was not to reduce the temperature of the raw part below 800 degrees.

The opening process yields a 6×6 meter cast piece to form the base of the nuclear reactor. Plate forgings of these sizes cannot be transported, and the production technology does not allow welded connections on the part.

After these procedures, the experts sent the part to the oven for 2 hours for additional heating as per the procedure. In the second stage of the opening process, the pressing force reached a maximum of 15 thousand tons. Ultimately, the piece was turned into a completely square slab. The base of the nuclear reactor will be formed by cutting a circle from the plate.

A first-class safety equipment, the reactor consists of a vertical cylindrical body with an elliptical base in which the core and cores are placed. The top of the reactor is hermetically sealed with a cap that houses the branch pipes that provide the exit of the sensor cables for installed mechanisms, controls, reactor protection and in-reactor control.

Akkuyu NPP, built in Turkey, is the first project in the nuclear industry to be implemented with the “BUILD-OPERATE-OWN” model. The project includes four power units with “3+” generation Russian VVER reactors with increased safety and improved technical and economic features. The design and construction of the power plant is carried out by the Engineering Department of the Russian State Corporation Rosatom. Each power unit in the NGS will have a capacity of 1200 megawatts.

AEM-Technology Anonim Şirketi, which was established in 2007 under Atomenergomash A.Ş., the machine building division of Russian State Atomic Energy Agency Rosatom, stands out as one of the leading Russian companies in the field of energy engineering. The structure of the company consists of an engineering center of experienced designers and technologists, as well as 'AEM Technology' A.Ş. in Petrozavodsk. Branch “Petrozavodskmash” and 'AEM Technology' A.Ş. in Volgodonsk. It includes two production sites, the “Atommash” branch.
