Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced January-August data. In the first eight months, automotive production increased by 14 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 814 thousand 520 units, while automobile production increased by 6 percent to 511 thousand 766 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production reached 850 thousand 811 units. In the same period, automotive exports increased by 14 percent on the basis of units to 595 thousand 425 units, while automobile exports increased by 2 percent to 365 thousand 704 units. In this period, the total market increased by 26 percent compared to the previous year and was realized as 522 thousand 244 units, while the automobile market increased by 23 percent to 391 thousand 392 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the automotive industry, which has a share of 13,4 percent in total exports in the January-August period, completed the first eight months of the year as the leader.

Automotive Industry Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 14 largest members that steer the Turkish automotive industry, has announced the production and export numbers and market data for the January-August period. Accordingly, in the first eight months of the year, total automotive production increased by 14 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 814 thousand 520 units, while automobile production increased by 6 percent to 511 thousand 766 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production was 850 thousand 811 units. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 62 percent. On the basis of vehicle group, capacity utilization rates were 62 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 57 percent in heavy commercial vehicles, and 73 percent in tractors.

Commercial vehicle production increased by 34 percent

In the January-August period, commercial vehicle production increased by 34 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In this period, while the production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 50 percent, the production in the light commercial vehicle group increased by 32 percent. In the first eight months of the year, total commercial vehicle production amounted to 302 thousand 754 units. Looking at the market, the commercial vehicle market increased by 34 percent, the light commercial vehicle market by 28 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 79 percent in the January-August period compared to the same period of the previous year. Considering the base effect, the truck market shrank by 2015 percent, the bus market by 30 percent and the midibus market by 58 percent compared to 74.

The market is 10 percent above the 5,4-year averages

In the period covering the first eight months of the year, the total market increased by 26 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 522 thousand 244 units. During this period, the automobile market also increased by 23 percent and amounted to 391 thousand 392 units. Considering the averages of the last 10 years, the total market increased by 5,4 percent and the automobile market by 9 percent, while the heavy commercial vehicle market and light commercial vehicle market contracted by 2,3 percent and 4,4 percent in the January-August period. In this period, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 40 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 53 percent.

Automotive is at the peak of exports with 13,4%

In the January-August period, total automotive exports increased by 14 percent on a unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 595 thousand 425 units. Automobile exports increased by 2 percent to 365 thousand 704 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM), the automotive industry exports maintained its first rank with a share of 13,4 percent in total exports in the January-August period.

19,2 billion dollars of exports was realized

In the January-August period, compared to the same period of the previous year, total automotive exports increased by 30 percent in dollar terms and 21 percent in euro terms. In this period, total automotive exports amounted to 19,2 billion dollars, while automobile exports increased by 11 percent to 6 billion dollars. Automobile exports on a Euro basis increased by 3 percent to 5 billion Euros. In the first eight months of the year, exports of the main industry increased by 23 percent in dollar terms, while exports of the supply industry increased by 40 percent.
