At the IAA Mobility 2021 summit, many new vehicles were launched to the world, while new technologies and transportation solutions were introduced. A public stage was prepared for vehicles, technologies and much more in the section called “Open Space” in Munich's city center, designed according to a new understanding, paying attention to the pandemic conditions. At IAA Mobility 2021, which spread to certain parts of the city, the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro among different types of transportation won the appreciation of the participants. Four Mercedes-Benz eCitaro with all-electric infrastructure commuted between locations at IAA Mobility 2021, demonstrating the enhanced efficiency level of today's city buses.
Breakthrough technology, attractive design, modern equipment
Passengers are on buses during these trips; experienced innovative solutions in technology, safety and comfort with the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro. Four eCitaro solo buses are equipped with conventional NMC batteries (lithium-ion technology).
The striking blue cladding with Mercedes-Benz's passenger car motifs on the exterior of the buses revealed the connection between the innovative models and the “Star”. Inside, passengers discovered the diversity of design and equipment of these modern city buses. After a tiring day at the fair; They took advantage of the comforts of the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro, such as high-efficiency climate control, comfortable seats and USB ports to charge their mobile devices while traveling. Depending on the version, the buses are equipped with game-changing safety equipment, including the turn assist Safeguard Assist and the active brake assist Preventive Brake Assist.
Comprehensive preventive measures against the risk of infection
All Mercedes-Benz eCitaros are equipped with the most effective protective measures against the risk of COVID-19 infection. All of the buses had a driver's compartment, high-efficiency active filters in the climate control system, and disinfectant sprayers with sensors in the entrance areas. In addition, the passenger compartments were cleaned at regular intervals and the contact surfaces were disinfected. Not only did this app allow IAA visitors to enjoy a clean journey on Mercedes-Benz's all-electric shuttle buses; it also provided maximum security.
Turkey's influence on eCitaro's R&D
R&D activities of eCitaro were carried out by Mercedes-Benz Türk R&D Center. Existing updates and improvements are still being made in Turkey. The scope of eCitaro such as interior equipment, bodywork, exterior coatings, electrical infrastructure, diagnostic systems, road tests and equipment durability tests are carried out under the responsibility of Mercedes-Benz Türk Hoşdere Bus Factory R&D Center. The Hidropuls endurance test, which is considered the most advanced test in terms of bus production R&D in Turkey, provides the opportunity to test a vehicle under conditions corresponding to 1.000.000 km road conditions. Within the framework of road tests; In real road, climate and usage conditions, long-term tests are carried out for all systems and equipment of the vehicle in terms of function and durability.
The first prototype vehicle within the scope of eCitaro's road tests; It has been tested in extreme climatic conditions and all conditions that can be encountered in different driving scenarios in road tests conducted in 2 different locations (Istanbul, Erzurum, Izmir) in Turkey for 10.000 hours (approximately 140.000 km) for 3 years.
The world launch of the all-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro, which offers an emission-free and silent drive, was held at the International Commercial Vehicle Fair in the fall of 2018. The first delivery of Mercedes-Benz eCitaro was made to Wiesbaden, Germany, on 18 November 2019 as 56 units. Since then; The eCitaro is used on the roads of cities such as Hamburg, Berlin, Mannheim and Heidelberg and in various European cities. New orders continue to be received with the Bellows eCitaro, which has been included in the mass production program as of May 2020.
