Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank stated that they want space and technology to be on the agenda of the young people and that they want them to develop themselves in this field and said, "With our young people whose horizons are as wide as the Milky Way, Turkey's position in the space race will rise to the upper steps in 10 years." said.

Minister Varank, in his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the International Diyarbakır Zerzevan Sky Observation Event, stated that they visit the region at every opportunity with the agenda of investment and employment and gave information about the richness of the province. Stating that they want to remind Turkey of these riches and meet young people who are interested in space and learning in this land with a science and technology heritage, Varank said, "A similar sky observation event we hold in Antalya every year will be held at the historical and mysterious Zerzevan Castle with international participants from now on. We will do it too.” used the phrase.

DISCOVERY IN THE DEPTH OF SPACE

Emphasizing that staying in the tent together and exploring the sky is a special experience during the observation event, Varank explained that they will try to explore the mysterious depths of space by examining the sky throughout the event.

MORE THAN A THOUSAND AUTHORIC ENVIRONMENTS

Varank, stating that more than 1000 young astronomy enthusiasts from all over Turkey and abroad are at the event, said, “The Moon, which is in the last crescent phase, Jupiter, the largest planet of the solar system, halkalı will observe Saturn, known as the planet, and many other celestial bodies and learn from its experts. In addition, seminars and various workshops on science, space and astronomy will be at your service during the daytime parts of the event.” he said.

OUR MAIN STAKEHOLDERS YOUTH

Noting that their top priority is to “raise human resources” in the space field that will enable all other goals to be achieved, Varank said, “Zerzevan Sky Observation Festival and similar events are very valuable in terms of raising awareness, especially for our youth and their families. We see young people as our main stakeholder in every policy we implement. Because we know that any project that is not accepted or supported by young people cannot achieve results.” he said.

SKY AND TECHNOLOGY CURIOUS

Stating that they have a similar perspective on space, Varank said, “We have made some innovations this year in the observation event that we have been organizing at the national level in Antalya for 22 years. Within the framework of our cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, we will spread this beautiful event to other cities of Anatolia, and we will ensure that the sky and technology curiosity is embraced by large masses. Diyarbakir is the first leg of this initiative. We will make it much more common in the coming period. Our first goal is to realize this event in Erzurum. Van is also one of the cities suitable for sky observation, we hope to realize this in Van as well.” said.

ONE OF THE TOP 10 POINTS

Pointing out that Zerzevan Castle is one of the 10 best places to observe the sky in Turkey, besides its deep-rooted history, Varank gave information about the historical features of the castle. Reminding that Zerzevan Castle and Mithras Temple were included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2020, Varank stated that Diyarbakır hosts two important world heritage sites together with the Silvan Malabadi Bridge.

SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE IN SPACE

Noting that Turkey has a significant experience in the field of space, Varank said, “We continue our work in this field intensively with our TUBITAK UZAY Institute and TUA. With TÜBİTAK UZAY, we are carrying out the İMECE Satellite Project in order to meet the high resolution image needs of our country and to eliminate its dependence on foreign countries. We have completed the design activities of the TÜRKSAT 6A Project, where Turkey's first domestic communication satellite was developed, and we are in the production phase. We will make these satellites ready for launch in 2022. Thus, Turkey will be one of the 10 countries that can develop communication satellites with national means.” he said.

NATIONAL SPACE PROGRAM

Regarding the goals in the National Space Program, Minister Varank said, “We want to make the first contact with the Moon in the 100th anniversary of the Republic by successfully completing the Moon Mission, which is the most important goal of our program. We aim to land our spacecraft on the Moon with international cooperation at the end of 2023 and with our national rocket in 2028. In this way, we will become one of the few countries that can carry out scientific activities on the Moon. The design and development work of the unmanned spacecraft that we will send to the Moon is currently ongoing. Our friends are working diligently on a rather tight schedule.” said.

HE WILL RISE TO THE UPPER STAGES

Saying, “Another goal in the program is to make Turkey a more competent country in astronomical observations and tracking of space objects from the ground,” Varank said, “Our TÜBİTAK National Observatory provides infrastructure and manpower support to observation projects, just as it does today. We are establishing the Eastern Anatolia Observatory in Erzurum. This observatory will have Turkey's largest optical and first infrared telescope. In order to achieve the goals and projects we have set, we continue our cooperation activities in the country and abroad. We are aware that all the efforts we spend in the field of space will return to us with added value in a very wide area. Most importantly, we want young people to have space and technology on their agenda, and to develop themselves in this field. With our young people whose horizons are as wide as the Milky Way, Turkey's position in the space race will rise to the top in 10 years.” used the phrases.
