As those who listen to the word of the society, we will raise this cry 8 times, 18 times, until the problem is solved.” IMM Deputy Secretary General Orhan Demir also stated that the occupancy rate of taxis increased to 91 percent after July, according to the ITU report.
The September UKOME meeting was held at İBB Çırpıcı Social Facilities under the management of İBB Secretary General CanAkın Çağlar. At the meeting, the new taxi system to be operated by İBB and the proposal for 1.000 new taxi license plates were discussed for the 9th time.
ÇAĞLAR: "WE WILL ATTEND THE PROBLEM UNTIL WE SOLVE"
IMM Secretary General Can Akın Çağlar stated that the majority of the complaints coming to IMM's 153 Solution Centers are about taxis, and that they determined that the complaints of the citizens on the street are in this direction, and said, "As those who listen to the word of the society, we will raise this cry 8 times, 18 times, until the problem is solved. . We talk about everything, we have not avoided talking about any subject until today. The main backbone of public transportation is the metro. When we started, 10 of the 8 metro construction sites in Istanbul had stopped. In the past, an average of 5 km of subway was built annually. We aim to complete 10 km of metro per year with our 20 metro constructions. Our loan requests for metros were kept in the cameclist for months, as in the iTaxi directive. We got approval from the parliament to renew the buses. This time, we could not get approval from Ankara for 10 months. Due to not being able to obtain these permits, we are currently purchasing 160 buses with our own resources. We do not aim for IMM to make a profit from the new taxi system. We insistently bring our project to the agenda in order to set a good example for the rehabilitation of the taxi system.”
İbrahim Orhan Demir, Deputy Secretary General for Transportation and Environment of IMM, said that they wanted a new report from the same unit of ITU, for which the Istanbul Taxi Drivers' Chamber had a report prepared after the pandemic, with the same scientific method, and it was determined that the occupancy rate of the taxis increased to 91 percent. “A taxi pulls 7 private vehicles out of traffic. 17 percent of 394 thousand 85 taxis have the İTaxi application. So there is digitization. In the ITU report written to the Istanbul Taxi Drivers Chamber, the process after the pandemic was evaluated. We requested the latest data from the same organization. Before the pandemic, there were 7,5 million daily trips in public transportation. Currently around 6 million. In other words, 20 percent of Istanbul residents fled to their private vehicles or taxis. The same unit that our Taxi Drivers' Chamber at ITU had prepared a report for right after the pandemic has also prepared a new report for us. In the report, it is seen that the taxi occupancy rate, which was 2020 percent in February 47 and 40 percent in November, increased to 1 percent before July 83 and to 91 percent after that. Everyone is already watching this. The governor's office is also watching. The ministry had issued a circular regarding the inspection of taxis. Today, the Governor's Office has issued an order regarding the inspection of the taxis upon the requests and complaints from the citizens. Istanbul really needs 5 thousand taxis. I expect upvotes. With this project, we aim to show Istanbulites how a taxi should be, to increase the quality of taxis and to improve the personal rights of drivers.”
After the other evaluations made at the meeting, the new taxi system and a thousand new taxi proposals, which were put to the vote, were rejected for the 9th time by the majority of the representatives of the ministry and the Istanbul Taxi Drivers' Chamber.
ELECTRICLISCUTERS CANNOT BE LEAVED EVERYWHERE
At the meeting, Electric Scooter Park Prohibited Areas were determined unanimously. Accordingly: 100 meters from the presidential buildings, 20 meters from the entrance and exit gates of military security and forbidden zones, 10 meters from the borders of military security and forbidden zones (Concrete Wall, Wire Mesh, etc.). within a distance of 20 meters from the entrance and exit gates of the security units, diplomatic representations and prisons, within 2.5 meters of the tram lines, within 5 meters of the entrances of the metro stations, to the walls of palaces and pavilions, to the historical walls and gates, to the entrances and exits of health institutions, to school entrances. It is forbidden to park e-scooter vehicles at the exits, entrances and exits of firefighters, entrances and exits of public buildings, pedestrian crossings, disabled ramps, disabled roads, public transportation stops and fire hydrants.
