The International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY) declared Bursa as the '38 Turkic World Capital of Culture' at its 2022th Term Meeting held in Khiva, Uzbekistan. Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş said that Bursa is waiting for the Turkish World in 2022.
While the celebrations continued at full speed in the city of Khiva, Uzbekistan, which was declared the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2020 by TURKSOY, the Permanent Council of TURKSOY came together to determine the 2022 Capital of Culture of the Turkic World and the person to be featured. The session moderated by the Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan, Ozodbek Nazarbekov, was attended by the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Mehmet Nuri Ersoy and the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality Alinur Aktaş, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Aziz Abduhakimov, the Secretary General of the Turkic Council Bagdad Amreyev, the Secretary General of TURKSOY Dusen Kaseinov, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary. and Foreign Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto, Turk-Pa Secretary General Altınbek Mamayusupov, Azerbaijan Culture Minister Anar Karimov, Kyrgyzstan Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Kairat Imanaliev, Kazakhstan Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports Nurkissa Duayeshov. Turkmenistan Deputy Minister of Culture Nursakhet Shirimov, Head of the New Culture and Tourism Chief Administration of Gagauzia Marina Semionova and TRNC Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu also attended the meeting online.
“I gladly announce Bursa's candidacy”
In the meeting, where the member countries made presentations one by one, the cities of Bursa from Turkey and Ganja and Shusha from Azerbaijan were evaluated for the 2022 Cultural Capital of the Turkic World. Speaking at the meeting where he made separate presentations in his three cities, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said, “As the 2022 Turkish World Culture Capital, it served as the capital of the Anatolian Seljuks and the Ottoman Empire, enchanting with its historical and architectural texture, and impressing the visitors with its green and natural beauties. It is with great pleasure that I announce the candidacy of Bursa. We look forward to your support for Bursa to be selected as the Capital of Culture. I believe that Bursa will take its place among the Cultural Capitals of the Turkish World by working with the same awareness and devotion, just like Eskişehir and Kastamonu, which deserve this honor like Hiva.”
It has been proposed to declare 2022 the 'Year of Commemoration of Süleyman Çelebi'.
Minister Ersoy, who also gave information about the ongoing projects carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the Turkish geography, stated that 2021 was declared as the 'Yunus Emre and Turkish Year' by the Presidency and was included in the commemoration programs by UNESCO. It coincides with the 2022th anniversary of the death of Süleyman Çelebi, who is also known as the Mevlit poet because of his Vesilet-ün-Necat work. In consultation with Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, we propose that 600 be declared as the 'Year of Commemoration of Süleyman Çelebi' on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of his death. I would like to thank TÜRKSOY for its dedication and contribution. I believe that we will act together in a common spirit with the aim of furthering the cooperation between the brotherly republics and strengthening the regional cooperation mechanism.”
Bursa was explained to the Turkish World
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş then made a presentation about Bursa to the permanent members at the 38th Term Meeting of TURKSOY. President Alinur Aktaş, who said that Bursa is one of the ancient cities of Turkish civilization that has been and continues to be a bridge with our geography of heart, said that thanks to many activities such as ancestral sports, exhibitions, TÜRKSOY culture and art activities, symposiums and publications, and the meeting of Turkish world museums, cooperation with TÜRKSOY. He also stated that they focused on activities aimed at the Turkish World. Expressing that they will continue these activities by increasing, President Aktaş said, “Today we are here as the candidate for the '2022 Turkish World Capital of Culture'. The year 2022 is a year when anniversaries and events that are important for the Turkish world and our city come together in Bursa. Celebrating the 600th anniversary of the death of Süleyman Çelebi, a Turkish mystic from Bursa, the first imam of the historical Great Mosque in our city, and the author of the first Turkish Mevlid-i Şerif which was translated into many languages. 100th anniversary of the liberation of Bursa from enemy occupation. Also this year, our city has been selected among the UNESCO Creative Cities in the field of craft and folk arts. And the 4th World Nomad Games are being held this year in our city, İznik, our beautiful town that smells like history. We wish to continue to contribute to the Turkish World in strengthening the bonds of love, keeping the cultural heritage alive, and developing political and economic unity with our projects and activities that we will carry out as the “Cultural Capital of the Turkish World” in such a meaningful year.”
Explaining the works they plan to organize in 2022 with the main titles, President Alinur Aktaş said, “The Turkish city, the meeting point of different civilizations with its ancient history, the Ottoman capital, the 4th largest city of the Republic of Turkey, the leading center of history, culture, nature, agriculture, tourism and industry. We want to make Bursa, the city of Bursa, the 'Cultural Capital of the Turkish World for 2022' with your support. Hoping to meet and see you in Bursa, I offer my best regards. Bursa '2022 Turkish World Capital of Culture'
The results of the evaluations made after the presentation were announced by the Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan, Ozodbek Nazarbekov. Nazarbekov expressed his heartfelt desire for Bursa to be the '2022 Turkish World Cultural Capital'. As a result of the voting, Bursa was declared as the '2022 Turkish World Capital of Culture'.
