Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyerhosted the Belgian Ambassador Paul Huynen and his accompanying delegation at his office. Minister Tunç Soyer “We are opening Izmir offices around the world. We started with Germany, we want to continue with Belgium and Brussels.”

Stefano Missir di Lusignano, İzmir Belgian Honorary Consul M. Nezih Öztüre and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Advisor to the Mayor Onur Eryüce. The courtesy visit he received was made at the İzmir Art Work Office in Kültürpark.

Economic cooperation between Brussels and Izmir

During the visit, President Soyer said, “İzmir is Turkey's third largest city in terms of population, but it is a pioneer in being a bridge between east and west. Due to being a port city, different cultures lived here together for centuries. We are determined to maintain the leading role in the trade that comes from İzmir's history.” Stating that they want to open İzmir offices in different parts of the world, President Soyer said, “We opened the Germany İzmir Promotion Offices, which were established in the German capital city of Berlin, Bremen, Bielefeld, Frankfurt and Hamm. We also want to open offices in Belgium and Brussels. These offices are essential not only for promoting İzmir, but also for us to learn from the world.” Ambassador Paul Huynen also stated that they want to improve relations between Belgium and Turkey. Brussels Region Commercial Attaché M. Stefano Missir di Lusignano said, “I will convey your intention to open the Brussels Office to the authorities. It will be very beneficial for İzmir to use this office as a platform.”

During the visit, the development of commercial relations between the port cities of Belgium and Izmir, the strengthening of the role of Izmir in Brussels, the administrative capital of the European Union, and economic cooperation came to the fore.
