The approval process of the West Anatolian Free Zone to be established in the Bergama District of the North Aegean, Turkey's most advantageous region in terms of logistics, was completed with the President's Decision dated 7 September 2021 and numbered 4482. The decision entered into force by being published in the Official Gazette dated 8 September. BASBAŞ will complete all necessary procedures by the end of 2021 and will start preparing the region for investors from the beginning of 2022.

The Western Anatolia Free Zone will be established on an area of ​​2.3 million square meters in the Aşağıkırıklar location of the Bergama District of İzmir. Free zone, Batı Anadolu Free Zone Founder and Operator A.Ş. (BASBAŞ) and will be operated for 30 years.

Stating that the West Anatolian Free Zone, which will be Turkey's 19th free zone, will start a new investment move in İzmir and change the fortunes of the North Aegean, BASBAŞ Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Executive Board Dr. Faruk Güler said, “Especially our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Minister of Commerce Mehmet Muş, İzmir Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger, AK Party Deputy Chairman and İzmir Deputy Hamza Dağ, İzmir Ak Party Provincial President Kerem Ali Continuous, who contributed to the completion of the approval process of the project. We would like to thank Mahmut Kaşıkçı, Bergama Mayor Hakan Koştu, Free Zones General Manager Emel Emirlioğlu and their bureaucrats, the Headman of Aşağıkırıklar Village, who embraced the project, all the people of Bergama with his members, and everyone who contributed to the realization of the project. The West Anatolian Free Zone will be implemented rapidly to meet all expectations and will increase economic welfare by ending unemployment in the North Aegean with the economic benefit it will provide.

Stating that they will complete all necessary procedures by the end of 2021 and start preparing the region for investors from the beginning of 2022, Dr. Faruk Güler emphasized that the Western Anatolia Free Zone, which will provide direct employment to 20 thousand people when it reaches full capacity, will provide an annual trade volume of over 4 billion dollars and exports over 2 billion dollars. Stating that they will attach importance to attracting companies that make value-added production and have high employment capacity in Bergama, as in the Aegean Free Zone, Dr. Güler said: “The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge will be completed in 2022. Bergama has become an extremely advantageous region in terms of logistics, with the presence of the ports in Aliağa, as well as the fact that the Istanbul-İzmir Motorway is connected to Bergama by the Soma junction and the North Aegean Motorway has been completed. With the completion of the North Aegean Port to be built in Çandarlı, the Western Anatolia Free Zone will become the region with the shortest and fastest land and sea connection to Europe. As the North Aegean Port will be Turkey's largest transit port, we will be at the center of maritime transport from all over the world to our country and from our country to the whole world. This will provide a great advantage to global companies that want to sell their production to the world by using the production advantages of the Aegean. I hope that our Free Zone will be beneficial for our province, region and country.”
