A protocol was signed between Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Konak Municipality to transform the historical Alanyalı Mansion into the 100th Anniversary of Our Independence Memorial House. Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer In his speech at the ceremony, “We ensure that this historical building, located in the heart of İzmir, turns into a Liberation Memorial House worthy of our city. In this way, we are proud to pay a little bit of our debt of gratitude to all our heroes in the liberation struggle, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk."

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality adds a new one to its works to revive the historical axis between Konak and Kadifekale. A protocol was signed between Konak Municipality and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for the conversion of Alanyalı Mansion, which was built in the 19th century and owned by Konak Municipality, into a memorial house to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Izmir's liberation. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor attended the ceremony. Tunç Soyer, Konak Mayor Abdül Batur, Gaziemir Mayor Halil Arda, Ödemiş Mayor Mehmet Eriş, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Dr. Buğra Gökçe, İzmir National Library Foundation President and Konak Municipality Council Member Ulvi Puğ.

The house of memory will be one of the places to visit

Our Independence Memorial House will tell our children and youth how the fate of every inch of the country's land, from east to west, was shaped with the liberation of İzmir. Our House of Remembrance will be one of the important points visited in the region as it is located at the meeting point of Kadifekale, Agora, Ancient Theater and Historical Kemeraltı, and continued his speech as follows: We expect the support of all our citizens in collecting the materials here. In his speech, Konak Mayor Abdul Batur said, “This region we are in is the historical golden triangle of Izmir. Agora, Kemeraltı and Historical Synagogue Street. We have carried out an important work under the leadership of our Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor to bring this region to its feet. Our President has a dream. We will make this dream come true together. Tourists will come from Konak Pier to visit the historical buildings of Kemeraltı. We will do our best to make this dream come true.”

Unique with ceiling decorations

Alanyalı Mansion, one of the structures witnessing history in Konak, is located in the district known as Kestelli. The historical mansion is also known as Alanyalı or Yemişcizade Mansion. The mansion, which was built in the 19th century and has survived from the Yemişçizade family, draws attention with its ceiling decorations. The mansion, which was used as a land registry cadastre directorate and military service in the first years of the Republic, also operated as Kestelli Girls' School between 1950-1969. The building, which was later rented as a knitting workshop, was sold to Akevler Service and Solidarity Cooperative in 1979. Konak was expropriated by Konak Municipality in 2013.
