The 8th hearing of the Çorlu train accident case was held. The request of the participating lawyers to file a criminal complaint against the prosecutor Galip Yılmaz Özkurşun, who conducted the investigation of the Çorlu case, was accepted.

The 7th hearing of the case opened in Çorlu regarding the train accident in which 25 people, 8 of whom were children, lost their lives, started today at the Çorlu 1st High Criminal Court.

Demanding the prosecution of all those responsible for the accident, the families marched to the courtroom at the Çorlu Public Education Center with the slogans "Corlu will be held accountable" and "Right, law is justice, accident is not murder".

'CHARGED OF 'POSSIBLE KILLING PEOPLE' TO THE DEFENDANTS'

In the ongoing case regarding the train accident, TCDD 1st Regional Directorate Halkalı 14th Railway Maintenance Directorate Railway Maintenance Manager Turgut Kurt, Çerkezköy 143 Road Maintenance Chief, Road Maintenance and Repair Chief Özkan Polat, Bridges Chief Çetin Yıldırım and Line Maintenance and Repair Officer Celaleddin Çabuk were on trial for “causing death and injury by negligence”. Additional defense was given by the court to the four defendants, who were tried pending trial, on the charge of "killing people with probable intent". At the eighth hearing, additional defenses of the defendants and their defense counsel were received.

CRIME STATEMENT ABOUT PROSECUTOR OZKURŞUN ACCEPTED

Relatives of those who died in the accident and those who were injured stated that the prosecutor who conducted the investigation of the train accident case did not fulfill his duty and did not take any action against all those responsible.

At the eighth hearing, the court board accepted the request of the attorneys participating in the criminal complaint against the prosecutor Galip Yılmaz Özkurşun, who conducted the investigation of the Çorlu train accident case. The court decided that necessary action should be taken to forward the criminal complaint to the correspondence office of the Ministry of Justice.

NINTH HEARING WILL BE HELD ON JANUARY 25, 2022

In its interim decision, which was announced at the eighth hearing, the court demanded that the outcome of the investigations related to the accident and the latest proceedings be asked to the prosecutor's office. The court decided to re-evaluate the new discovery request and the requests of some TCDD executives to be heard as witnesses after the investigation results were asked.

Deciding on the continuation of the judicial control provisions for the defendants pending arrest, the court stated that the ninth hearing will be held on January 25, 2022.
