Ankara Metropolitan Municipality is bringing the 'Pioneering Women of Our Republic' photography exhibition together with art lovers from the Capital city at Zafer Çarşısı Art Gallery.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş made the opening of the exhibition, which was organized by the Department of Culture and Social Affairs and featured the photographs of 159 Turkish women who shaped the republic. Mayor Yavaş cut the opening ribbon of the exhibition, in which the bureaucrats of the Metropolitan Municipality participated, together with the writer and businessman Hanri Benazus, who is a fan of Atatürk.

“WE ARE PLANNING TO TURN THIS PLACE INTO A SQUARE AGAIN”
Making a short speech at the opening ceremony, President Mansur Yavaş stated that they want to keep the historical artifacts belonging to the republic in the heart of the republic and said, “This place we are in is the Victory Bazaar. It is a place where everyone comes and goes, but we see that together with Ulus and Kızılay, these places are also becoming a depression. We have a project; We want them to renew the exterior facades from Dışkapı to Kuğulu, from Tandoğan Square to Cebeci, and return them to their original duties. For this reason, we will design the top of the Victory Bazaar as a square again, and we will open the place, which is currently used as a shop, to the use of young people. We plan to turn this place into a square again,” he said.
Noting that it is not possible for a city to lose its memory, Yavaş continued as follows:
“Therefore, we are trying to revive all the values that are our memory, starting with Ulus. On the way to Kızılay, we see that a street that used to be heavily used as a flood of people after certain hours shifts to other places over time and loses its charm. We are starting a project preparation by opening a competition for the revival of these places. We built an art center and a cultural center instead of the Modern Bazaar, which was destroyed by a fire. I said it there too. What do they matter? st. Petersburg, you know, attracts a terrible number of tourists. Those who go there must visit the museums as well as the beauty of the city. I saw little kids visiting those exhibitions all the time. And when you look at the structure of the city, you inevitably see this; It is not possible for a child who grew up with so much art and aesthetics to think of building 5 floors next to him when buildings are 20 floors all over the city. Because it will catch your eye. Unfortunately, such things do not catch our eye. We always thought that those big glassed buildings were the work of civilization, but unfortunately we are only just now realizing that they spoil the structure of the city, its culture, traffic, and destroy its livability. We are destroying our own city.”

Referring to the Jansen Plan, which was implemented while Ankara was being planned, Yavaş said, “While Ankara, which was made with the Jansen Plan, was very orderly, we unfortunately made it this way. We are determined to keep alive this plan, at least the parts that did not disappear, as it was in the founding years of the republic. This bazaar is such a planned place. Therefore, we will continue our efforts to protect the center of the city that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk entrusted to us, while protecting our past and our culture, and to take it to the forefront among the developed countries in the world with its lifestyle. We started to work on exhibition halls in Ankara. Hopefully, we aim to protect and maintain both our culture and our art while we live together in health.”
“EVERY PROFESSION HAS A FIRST WOMAN TOGETHER WITH THE REPUBLIC”
Author and businessperson Hanri Benazus, known for his collection of tens of thousands of Atatürk photographs, said:
“At the request of our president and the directors of other departments, we decided to open a series of exhibitions and then establish a museum. We thought of opening the first opening especially as the memorial women of our republic. The reason is; I know very well our president's view on women. I know that he is one of those who appreciate best the point they have reached with the republic from their oppression. That's why what I did was to explain how far our women have risen by using the opportunities given to women with the republic. Here, every profession has the first woman of every profession along with the republic. From now on, I am ready to open many more exhibitions in any way, at the request of our president. I think Karayalçın has a place. If that place is prepared, we will set up the museum there. Thankfully, what our president set as a goal, not arbitrarily, exceeded all the borders of Ankara. He really took a place in the hearts of all of Turkey with his personality, his demeanor, his bringing and concluding anything without polemic. I currently have close to 10 thousand Atatürk photographs. I believe that this business should definitely stay in Turkey. These are things that Turkish society has. Atatürk gave me the honor of being Turkish. I will continue until I die.”
